I'm researching the McKenzie/Young family, and possibly the Robertson family. This is the information I have. Capt James McKenzie, b 24 Dec 1775 Dyke, Moray ggg grandfather father William (IGI) Discharged from Royal Regiment of Artillery, aged 40 ca 1815 Married Margaret, ggg grandmother 1841 census, James, 66, living at Flocklens, Moray, occupation Army P Margaret, 51 1851 census - Margaret, 60, b Forres, living at 366 High St, Forres 1861 census - Margaret, 70 b Edinkillie, visiting Robertson family Peter, 31 Helen, 27 Peter, 2 James, 10 mo Daughter Christian gg grandmother b abt 1809/1810 Resolis/Ferintosh, Ross & Cromarty d 16 Sept 1863 Strath, Gariloch, Ross & Cromarty married Joseph Young, 22 June 1832 Kincardine Joseph b abt 1811 Inver, Inversshire children - Christian Young gg grandmother b 11 May 1842 Gaiskell Poolewe Garloch John Young, b abt 1833/1834, Sutherlandshire Margaret Young, abt 1835 Coran R&C Thomas Young, b 24 Jul 1840 Poolewe, R&C William Young b abt 1845 Poolewe, R&C Grace Elizabethe Young, b 26 May 1848, Poolewe, Gairloch James Young, b abt 1847, Poolewe, Gairloch Is anyone also researching this family? I was intrigued by the information Jo-An Croft provided on Forres - Ann, daughter to Alexander MacKenzie and Janet Robertson b 14-9-1832 and wondered if there might be a connection with the Robertson's Margaret McKenzie was visiting during the 1861 census. Probably a stretch. Could not find any info on Margaret McKenzie, birth, marriage to James, or death; or James McKenzie's death records. Any help on tracing this family would be most welcome.
You can get Christian's birth/baptism record from http://scotlandspeople.gov.uk and her brother Alexander. The on-line IGI gives these children: MacKENZIE, Christian b 21 Apr 1803, bap 2 May 1803 Resolis, Ross and Cromarty McKENZIE, Alexander b 25 Mar 1809 Resolis, Ross and Cromarty Parents: James M[a]cKENZIE and Margaret AIRD If James was an officer then I don't believe he would have been an Army Pensioner. The pension system was for enlisted men only as far as I know. Therefore the James you found in the 1841 census was not your James. In the 1851 census, that Margaret is still living at Flockleys and is described as Unmarried, which would have made her the sister of the the 1841 James. For Christian and Joseph YOUNG, the on-line IGI gives these births: John - 29 Nov 1833 Assynt, Sutherland Margaret - 23 Jul 1835 Urquhart & Logie Wester Thomas - 24 Jul 1840 Gairloch Christina - 11 May 1842 Gairloch William - ch 30 Dec 1844 Gairloch James MacKenzie - 14 Oct 1845 Gairloch Elizabeth Grace MacKenzie - 26 May 1848 Gairloch -- Jo-Ann Croft
