    3. Hello George & Coleen........ I am not related to this family. Hers was an extra death on my page but in doing some checking, I found the family extremely interesting so dug a little more than usual. ___ Nairn, Nairnshire, Pg 14 - Janet Georgina Gordon - 22 Jun 1866 - Died at Ivybank, age 56, married to James Gordon (captain half pay), daughter of John Grant (Major 97th Regiment) (deceased) and Anna Trapaud Grant MS Grant (deceased) PA (?) Gordon, son, informant. ___ This James Gordon was first married to Margaret Knight, daughter of Robert Knight, Esq.... ___ "Capt. James Gordon, April 9. At Ivy Bank, Nairn, N.B., aged 90, Captain James Gordon, late of Revack, Strathspey, N.B. The deceased was the fourth son of the late James Gordon, Esq., of Croughly, Banffshire by Anna, daughter of John Forbes, Esq., of Bellabeg, co. Aberdeen, and brother of the late General Gordon of Lochdbu. He was born at Croughly in the year 1776, and entered the army as ensign, 92nd Gordon Highlanders, in 1804. In the following year he became paymaster of his regiment, and served with it throughout the Peninsular War and at Waterloo, receiving the ward medal with seven clasps and the Waterloo medal. Captain Gordon, who was one of the most popular men in the North, was a deputy-lieutenant for Elginshire and Nairnshire. He was twice married, first in 1819, to Margaret, daughter of R. Knight, Esq., by whom he has left issue one daughter; and, secondly to Janet Georgina, daughter of Major John Grant, late 97th Regt., of Auchterblair, by whom he has left three sons and two daughters. The deceased was buried in the family burial ground at Kirkmichael, Banffshire." "The Gentleman's Magazine", Vol 222, pg 816-817" ___ Janet Georgina was born 11 Jun 1810 Duthil / Rothiemurchus (IGI extracted - have not looked at the record) to John Grant & Anne Grant. I assume her mother (Anne Trapaud Grant) was named after her Aunt Anne Campbell who married Alexander Trapaud, governor or Lt. governor of Fort Augustus. Janet's mother, Anne, was born in 1785 Duthil to Rev. Patrick Grant, Minister of Duthil and Beatrice Campbell. Anne may have been a twin to Matilda who was baptized the same day (no date of birth listed for the two). Janet's grandmother, Beatrice Campbell, was baptized 2 Sep 1781 Kilmartin, Argyllshire to Capt. Neil Grant & Matilda Campbell. Janet was also the informant on her mother's death........ ___ Nairn, Nairnshire, Pg. 19 - Anne Trapaud Grant d. 30 Jun 1865 - Died at Ivybank (usual residence Duntroon Cottage, Queen Street, Nairn), age 80, widow of John Grant, Major, 97th Regiment, daughter of Patrick Grant (Minister of Duthil) (deceased) and Beatrice Grant MS Campbell (deceased). Janet G. Gordon, daughter, informant. ___ Janet Georgina's grandmother, Beatrice (Campbell Grant), is listed with her daughter Anne in the 1841 Nairn, Nairn census (www.freecen.org.uk) I have found much just by google-ing. The quickest way to do this is enter a person's name within quotation marks and an odd item, such as a place. You could just enter "Gordon, Croughly" or "James Gordon, Croughly" and come up with information on this family. Hopefully, I have answered your questions - please excuse any typos! If you are related to Janet, I do have images that I would be happy to pass along. King regards and happy hunting!! Sherry
