In my own McCONACHIE research I have found to date 7 different spellings and seen a list of many more. "In 1651 most of the McQuarrie clan were killed at the Battle of Inverkeithing and the McQuarries never recovered. " This is a clipped quote from "The Clans and Tartans of Scotland" by Robert Bain. In the same book the list of Septs beggining with MacQ are: MACQUEY, MACQUHIRR, MACQUISTAN, and MACQUOID and for clans: McQUARRIE and MACQUEEN. Many thanks to both Ian and Louise, your help is greatly appreciated. I had thought that it could be McQuarrie but the "c" at the end threw me off a bit. I did not want to enter it in that way unless I was relatively certain. In my "Calder" database I have one column for the way I think the surname should be spelled and one for the actual transcription. Sherry Canton, MI
