In my own McCONACHIE research I have found to date 7 different spellings and seen a list of many more. "In 1651 most of the McQuarrie clan were killed at the Battle of Inverkeithing and the McQuarries never recovered. " This is a clipped quote from "The Clans and Tartans of Scotland" by Robert Bain. In the same book the list of Septs beggining with MacQ are: MACQUEY, MACQUHIRR, MACQUISTAN, and MACQUOID and for clans: McQUARRIE and MACQUEEN.
