    1. Paterson and Torrie in Rafford

    3. Hello everyone. This is my first posting, so I hope it works correctly. We are trying to find out more about Alexander and Jane Paterson (nee Torrie). They were married at Rafford in 1840: the wedding certificate shows him as a Farm Servant in Blervie and she as resident in Woodside. The 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses show her still living in Woodside (aged 82 in 1901) but he does not appear (died?). He was alive in 1859 when his youngest child Isobella was born. We do not know when either were born or died, or whether either Paterson or Torrie were Rafford families. We have searched all the Moray listings from the time the lists began but can find little about Rafford and its families. Does anyone have any knowledge of these families? It is likely that Alexander and Jane are buried in Rafford church. Are there any MIs for Rafford? Isabella Paterson married William Nicol (born Dallas) in 24/10/1890, and it is from this union that we are descended. His parents were Alexander Nicol (1813-1879) and Janet McGillivray (1820-1896) both of whom ran the Dallas post office between the 1870s and 1890s. We have traced the Nicol family back to a James Nicol (1719-1777) of Kintessack. If anyone is researching the Nicol family in Kintessack/Moy and of Dallas, or knows of a John McGillivray married to Janet Falconer, who had a child, Donald McGillivray in 1791, we will be very happy to expand on what we know. 3. Just tried to check Scotlands People to see if they have 1851 onwards census. Want to check on the weekend, but couldnt get past home page because I didnt have any money in it. Dont want to waste money before Saturday (true Scot!), could someone tell me if Scotlands People has the census 1851 and later please. Home page doesnt tell you what records they have. I have found a family in 1841 census not in the place we thought they would be and now I want to try and follow them to see where they went. I havent used SP for a while and I have forgotten if it has the census. Thanks Barbara -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. 3. Hi Barbara I'm afraid you will have to wait till Summer 2005 for 1851c, still just 1881/1891/1901c. You can see what is on the site without logging in, go to 'About this site' from the left hand side of the Home page and then when the next page loads, from the right side this time, 'What's in the database'. 3. Janice, thanks for answering, I need the 1851 or 1861 census as the son was in NZ by 1867, but I may find the parents on the 1881 census. Have to look for their deaths anyway, so I'll try 1881 and see what I get. I havent used Sp for a few months and had forgotten about checking about this site. I dont get a lot of time on the computer these days and I forget how I got into things. Thanks again, Barbara -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
