LAURA, Looking at my information, I realized now my Murrays were in Blackfold of Mortlach. It was Robert Donaldson & wife Margaret Marquis that were in Edinvillie, and my Carmichaels were in Birkinbush and Blairshinnock of Aberlour. Do you know if those are the only 2 cemeteries that were in Aberlour back in the 1700s? What does ScotlandsPeople mean? Thanks for your help. Kathy Wells. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Laura Lovett" <lelovett@earthlink.net> To: <MORAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 24, 2005 10:35 PM Subject: Re: [MORAY] Murrays in Moray > > Hi Kathy; > There's only one Murray in Charlestown of Aberlour cemetery (my book goes > up > to 1855, after that deaths should be on ScotlandsPeople): > > James Stewart in Bogend, died 1804 age 84, wife Janet Murray died 1804 age > 77. > > There are no Murrays in Rothes Cemetery. > > Laura > > > >> OK, one more question. Kathy Wells wrote: > What does ScotlandsPeople mean? Hi Kathy, Ian Cameron is quite right, Scotland'sPeople is a fabulous site but you might like a tip or two. You pay [any currency] for at least 30 credits which also gives you 7 days free access. You can ask as many searches as you like but every time you access a page of hits you get one credit deducted. A page contains up to 25 hits so make sure you narrow or widen your search until you get close to a multiple of 25. Even if you know the date of an entry, spread the net cos you never know when the list of hits could be useful, e.g. for relatives you don't yet know about. And use wild cards judiciously to cover a wider range. Once you've found a hit that looks interesting, it will cost you 5 credits to have any post-1855 image downloaded to your computer; it comes into a different window. However the site doesn't seem to support Firefox for the images so you may have to use another browser for that [it's the only time I use Internet Explorer!!]. Take great care about the "Order an Image" button. For this they will charge you £10 per image. Admittedly it is printed on thick cream paper and authorised with the embossed Great Seal of the Registrar, but who really needs that formality 160+ years after the event? :-(( For pre-1855 images, look at the film if you can or get your Family History Society to look it up and print a copy for you. The Aberdeen society [ANESFHS] will do that for members at a fraction of the cost. One last thing, you can go back and look at any list you have already viewed and at any image you have downloaded. But if, like us, you have looked at nearly 600 lists of hits and viewed some 300 images, it isn't that easy to find your relevant old hit-lists - and you can't search the list [bother it!]. Hope this helps Good luck Ray www.whatsinaname.net
Hi Kathy; ABERDEEN & N.E. SCOTLAND FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY publishes books of all the graveyards (including the one I bought that is Speyside cemeteries); check the list at http://www.anesfhs.org.uk/publ.htm#Series1 As for Donaldson, Aberlour is more helpful on that. This looks to be your ancestors: Robt Donaldson, Shanval of Edenville died 1 Dec 1751 age 67; wife Margaret Meroues died 12 Jan 1732, age 36 And these are the gravestones nearby: James Donaldson fr Newtown of Boharm died 24 Dec 1820 age 58, wife Jean McDonald died 19 Nov 1863, son John died 28 Feb 1801, dau Isabel died 4 April 1811, son James erected the monument 5 Dec 1816. John Donaldson, Blairmain erected in memory of son Alex died 1752 infant, son Robert 10 May 1768 age 19; John Donaldson, wife Janet Garrow in Allachie died 22 July 1831 age 75; Alex Donaldson fr Blairmain died 7 Dec 1833 age 70, wife Ann Thomson died 1862 age 77; John Donaldson late of Blairmain died Feb 1808 age 91, wife Elspet Stewart died May 1809, age 80 Hope that helps!
