His wife Barbara was the daughter of William McConnachie and Elizabeth Garden, and was born 1 July 1860 at Glen of Newmill, Keith. She married George on 20 March 1880 at Newmill. Their son William Christie was born on 26 April 1880 at Glen of Newmill, and Barbara died of phthisis on 22 September 1883 at Glen of Newmill. She was a patient in Chalmers Hospital, Banff in the 1881 census., though I have yet to look at the hospital records to see why she was admitted. I have the census details from 1861, 1871 and 1891 for Barbara's family in Newmill. Barbara's father seems to have been born in about 1828 in Enzie, according to the 1891 census. George's second marriage, to Rachel Shearer, was also cut short by the early death of his wife. His third wife outlived him. Anne
