I was just wondering if you can tell me if there is any way to find out where to look for divorces late 1800's. As in my earlier message for Elizabeth Mackenzie - Penuels Daughter also, I said I have Penuel Smith marrying Alexander Mackenzie in 1877 and it was registered in 1878 (sheriff warrant) but she also registered for poor relief in 1877 and you wasnt sure about that. I have since found out Penuel left Scotland 1878 on board the ship "Rodell Bay" bound for Australia. Also Alexander Mackenzie was a Police Constable when he married her which I have also found out he was only in Police Force from 1876-1877 then he left it. There is no record of him coming to Australia and I havent been able to find him on the Australian Queensland Death register so I am wondering maybe Penuel and Alexander divorced. I did find a Alexander Mackenzie on the 1881 as a under gamekeeper in Elgin but I dont know if it is him or not. Could you please advise me where to look for any Divorces from 1877 - 1878. I hope I am not confusing you too much with their past. But Penuels has certainly been colourful. Somehow on the Libindx site Penuel is listed with New Zealand next to her name and I dont know where that fits in either. That was on Jane (Jemima) Douglas and Robert Branders listing. Any thoughts????? Julie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
