    3. Hi Sharon If your ancestor was in WW1 he should have a campaign medal at least. If so and you have name, regiment and date of birth, you should be able to get an image of the Medals Record Card from http://www.documentsonline.nationalarchives.gov.uk/medals.asp This will give you a service number. You would then have to visit the PRO at Kew to see the service record - or get someone to do it for you. Can be frustrating as so much is missing - as we found out when we went there The images only show the front of the card and the MoD are talking about dumping the cards as they "have the images on line". Since the reverse of the card sometimes shows additional details and a huge proportion of WW1 Military Records were destroyed by incendiary bombing in WW2, the destruction of such valuable material is a disgrace. I'm not sure of the actual situation on the Medal Cards but some charitable concern was attempting to get them. Maybe some other lister knows what the current position is on this.
