I am not sure what Charles Middleton's family were, but on one of my other lists, it was suggested he must have come from a prominent line, as he left a significant amount of money to his four children when he died, and it could not have been what he earned as wages in his military career. He was a major-general at the end of his life, and spent much of his career in India. Sir Frederick Dobson Middleton was his son.
