As a specific followup to my previous posting, I have this quote from the Fordyce OPR, which I'll quote in full for interest's sake. My specific question is: does anyone know the identity of James REID JP? Years later, one of mine, John REID farmer of Swailend Deskford (1822-1903) was also a JP, and I'm wondering if there's any connection. My Swailend REIDs do seem to have had some sort of better standing in the community than other farming families, but I cannot be back any further than James REID and Elizabeth GRANT (sister of a David GRANT?) who married 1757 Deskford.
