    3. As a specific followup to my previous posting, I have this quote from the Fordyce OPR, which I'll quote in full for interest's sake. My specific question is: does anyone know the identity of James REID JP? Years later, one of mine, John REID farmer of Swailend Deskford (1822-1903) was also a JP, and I'm wondering if there's any connection. My Swailend REIDs do seem to have had some sort of better standing in the community than other farming families, but I cannot be back any further than James REID and Elizabeth GRANT (sister of a David GRANT?) who married 1757 Deskford. "At Portsoy this tenth day of April 1804 in Presence of James REID Esqr one of her Majesty's Justice of Peace for the county of Banff compared Mrs ROBERTSON relict of the deceased James ROBERTSON Merchant in Portsoy, & Elspet ROBERTSON relict of the deceased Aler ROBERTSON ----- sailor in Portsoy, and made Oath, that they were present at the Baptism of Alexander, a child born in lawful wedlock of James ELDER Shipmaster in Portsoy and Elspet ROBERTSON his wife, on the eleventh day of April one thousand seven hundred & seventy eight also at the Baptism of John on the twenty sixth of July one thousand seven hundred & eighty & at the Baptism of Charles, on the fourteenth of March one thousand [seven hundred] & eighty three, and at the Baptism of Keith on the twenty second of July one thousand seven hundred & eighty six, being all lawful sons of these James ELDER & Elspet ROBERTSON --------- Which is truth as they shall answer to God ------- Signed Mary ROBERTSON her Elspet ER ROBERTON mark Jas REID J.P ---------" - Fordyce OPR Regards Howard
