    3. Hi Peter, Although I am not directly related to the McGregor family, I have researched a paricular branch of the them that originated in the Strathspey parishes of Duthil, Inverallan, & Cromdale etc. I also know where Croughly is (but not Urghan of Croughly) nearTomintoul in the parish of Kirkmichael, Bnf. I found some entries on the IGI where Malcolm McGregor & Margaret Burgess had issue in Duthil c. 1800 and parents of the same name also had issue in Kirkmichael c. 1820. I have experienced some difficulty verifying if in fact they are the same family ?? There was one son baptized in Kirkmichael on Feb. 2, 1816 that perhaps is the your Innkeeper at Bogniebrae ?? George in Ottawa. N.B. Your pictures do not appear to have been included in the clangregor website. >From: "gregowen" <gregowen@ntlworld.com> >Reply-To: MORAY-L@rootsweb.com >To: MORAY-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [MORAY] Speyside Mcgregor Pictures >Date: Mon, 29 Sep 2003 12:58:00 +0100 > >Hi List, > >I have used the new Clan Gregor on-line photo album to publish pictures of >Malcolm McGregor, farmer at Urghan of Croughly BAN and his son John >McGregor, Innkeeper at Bogniebrae ABN. > >Please see: > >http://www.clangregor.com/album/showgallery.php?cat=996&si=&page=2&sort=1&pe > >I would be pleased to hear from anyone with links with this family or who >has information about them. > >Regards, > >Peter >South Wales >[Scanned by Norton AntiVirus] > > > >==== MORAY Mailing List ==== >Don't forget that if you delete a message, you can always visit the >archives of this list http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/MORAY/. 3. Hello George, Thanks for your response. Yes you have the right family. Malcolm McGregor married Margaret Burgess. Their children were Janet 1811, Margaret 1813 (Knock of Croughly), John 1816, Elizabeth and James [my gt gt grandfather] 1818, Isabella 1820, Donald 1822, and Alexander 1824, Kirkmichael. As you rightly suppose John was the Bogniebrae Innkeeper, also grocer and clothier. There are some online MI's from Forgue church but I've lost the link! Malcolm's brother James 1781-1860 founded the Balmenach distillery in Cromdale. He was the gt grandfather of Sir Robert Bruce Lockhart, the author of 'My Scottish Youth' which includes many interesting McGregor tales, including... "[James] walked across the hills from Tomintoul to Balmenach to create what was virtually a new farm....". Malcolm and James were two of the children of John McGregor [= Janet Stewart (d/o Alexander)], miller in Garlyne. John's father, Malcolm McGregor of Camdel [= Janet Gordon] was miller in Ballinmore near Nethybridge. And there we are stuck Regarding the pictures, later postings have been made on the site so you will have to scroll to an earlier page (Within the last 7 days). 3. For the attention of Peter Owen. If you are subscribing to this LIST, please advise me if you have changed your ISP. I discovered a McGregor family in the 1891 Census that may be related to yours at Balmenoch Distillery. All mail from your ntlworld ISP has been returned as "Undelivered" George
