    3. Quite a story - a bittersweet ending to the life of a happy couple. 12 kids, too. Thanks for sharing. Cam Sherry Williamson <[email protected]> wrote: I would invite Alexandrina Calder and her husband, Hugh Clark as her early life in Scotland remains a mystery. She was baptized in 1828 Nairn, Nairn to James Calder and Janet MacIntosh. Her mother died shortly after she was born and her father, along with his sister and some of her siblings left for Canada in 1832, settling in North Dumfries, Waterloo, Ontario. Her eldest sister, Isabella Calder, had married James Forsyth of Duffus prior to their father's immigration (their first child Janet was baptized in 1831 Nairn, Nairn). They are next found listed in the 1841 for Hopeman, Duffus. Alexandrina is not listed with this family in the 1841 (would have been abt. 13 years old). This family immigrated to Canada (Oneida, Haldimand, Ontario) via the Birbice out of Aberdeen in 1849. Her second eldest sister, Janet Calder, also remained behind. She was baptized in 1810 Nairn, Nairn and married Duncan McDonald (much her senior) in 1840 Nairn. Alexandrina is not listed with this family in the 1841. The McDonald's joined the other members of the family in Oneida about 1851. Alexandrina and Hugh crossed the pond abt. 1850 also settling in Oneida. She and Hugh had 12 children, the first two being born in Scotland. Hugh lists that he was born Sep 1815 in Scotland in the 1901 Canadian Census. Alexandrina Calder died in 1873 Oneida. According to one of the descendents, Alexandrina had a beautiful singing voice and could be found on many occasions sitting on a log outside her home singing. She died when the carriage she was driving overturned and crushed her. According to this gentlemen, Hugh was so distraught that he insisted her gravestone be made to look like a log (and it is). Hugh died in 1904 and is buried with her. I would ask Alexandrina in whose charge she was left when her father immigrated. What was her early life like? Where did she meet Hugh Clark, in what parish in Scotland were her children born? I would ask Hugh where in Scotland he was born and to whom (they named their first son James Calder Clark)? I was so hoping that when the 1841 was released, I would find her with MacIntosh relatives as we have no clue as to her mother's ancestry. She is nowhere to be found!
