    3. James Younie, I think would also like me to invite his brother John, who served in the Indian Civil Service around Bengal during the 2nd World War. John would probably like the chance to chat to his brother and his two other sibblings, Annie and Helen. John would also bring his wife Dorothy Mitchell with him and his 4 children. I think George Younie and his wife Helen Riach would like to be in on the action too - why not it is Christmas and we can always find more space and food. I know John sent his wife and family back to Scotland from India when the war started. Little did she know that he would never come home. What was like in India in the 1930's and 40's. Did he meet other family members who had gone to India while he was there. But more to the point, where are you now ! In Calcutta somewhere, but where ? Would you still be having turkey and the trimmings in Calcutta for your Christmas meal. Were there many men alone at that time having sent their loved ones home. Did you all gather together, happy but sad in each others company ? Well for one day you can all be together, happy, warm and content, telling stories. Who did what, why and when and to whom. Children again, under the supervision of their parents- a happy family. And me watching on, quiet but taking mental notes while I serve the turkey, dish out the pudding and later when they have all gone, sit in a warm glow of contentment tinged with sadness - if only we could invite them for a chat and a meal, I would never let mine leave.
