    3. Gavin, Many thanks for your comment. Having checked my copy, I have now added the information - shame on the SAFHS for not including it as a note! I have found the book very useful for place-name spelling. To aid computer searching I use the book version as standard, and include other spellings as variations. I find that sometimes (often?!) parish names are quoted as place names, so the book comes in useful in deciding locations. This doesn't help of course where parish and place bear the same name. Kind regards, Pat POSTSCRIPT - Just to avoid queries SAFHS = Scottish Association of Family History Societies >Pat wrote: > Reference the recent postings, I have found the following publication > of great value. > "The Parishes, Registers & Registrars of Scotland" ISBN 1-874722-05-6, > published by the Scottish Association of Family History Societies. > I obtained my copy from the Aberdeen & NE Scotland FHS No quarrel with that, but it is important to realise that the outline Parish maps in that volume reflect the counties and parishes as they were after the great re-alignment of 1891. Before that date, some counties and many parishes had significantly different boundaries, some of which can have a dramatic effect on where you might need to look for your ancestors.
