Hi Allan, This is the family on the 1881 census. Jane is not on this family view however, she appears to be a domestic servant aged 18 at Mill Street, Duffus, Elgin working for a William Sutherland and family. Jane is shown as born in Drainie. If you haven't got the births of all of this family, go to the web site: familysearch.org. Also look out for Pedigree Resource files which other people have supplied on the family search site. There is one for Annie Hepburn who married a William Murray. There may be others but you have to check these at some point with the Scotlands People website at Scotlandspeople.gov.uk. I did this research quite a few years ago and have been off line for some time, so catching up again. Will check what further I have if I hear from you. Hello, I have recently started research of my family history and this is my first contact to this mailing list. I have the birth certificate of my great grandmother, JANE HEPBURN (born 9th April 1863 at STOTFIELD). Her parents on the certificate are shown as JAMES HEPBURN and JESSIE HUNTER (married in DRAINIE parish on 6th April 1854). Given these details, I would greatly appreciate any further information that anyone might have. Allan Jewell.

the scottish 1911 census won't appear until the end of 2010. If the Roll of Honour is from a war memorial try the CWGC website ...it often gives details of war time casualties. Most war casualties should appear in the 1901 census Irene 2009/11/2 Shirley Rumbles <srumbles@sourcecable.net> > Hello Listers, > I have done a lot of genealogy on the Rumbles of Banffshire area and > just recently received an email from a fellow researcher of the Rumbles > family of Deskford and Cullen Banffshire. Hello Listers, I have done a lot of genealogy on the Rumbles of Banffshire area and just recently received an email from a fellow researcher of the Rumbles family of Deskford and Cullen Banffshire. He sent me an attachment called "Roll of Honour" which he got at the heritage & genealogy fair in Elgin from the Cullen, Deskford & Portknockie Heritage Group whom have managed to create records and 'bits & Pieces' from different sources. On this roll of honour are 4 Rumbles sons of Mr. P Rumbles of Faichyhill farm at Deskford. I believe it would be Peter Rumbles who farmed at Faichyhilll in 1914-1918. I am interested in finding out more about this family and the other Rumbles Families in the area. Can you help me or at least start me in the right direction. Maybe a 1911 census would be a good start!!! Thank you in advance, Shirley Rumbles
The Land Ranger map shows this location to be NW of Tomachlagan in Kirkmichael, yet there does not appear to be any farm there today. Any idea where, if anything, on either a farm or community there? William

Could this be Frances Wheen Kynoch, who died in Ballater on 28 August 1968 and was buried there, but is commemorated on a stone in Keith Old Cemetery? She lived at Firlands, Fochabers. Her parents were George Kynoch and Edith Wheen, Isla Bank, Keith. This is the family who ran Isla Bank Mills until relatively recently. Firlands is in Lennox Crescent, Fochabers, which is the last part of the A96 entering Fochabers from the east before the mini-roundabout. I don't know the house, but there are not many in Lennox Crescent so it should not be hard to find. Best wishes Anne
As a child I visited the home of a Miss Kynoch in Fochabers where my mother used to work as housekeeper. We used to visit her when we came to grandads in Llanbryde and I remember it was a large house, especially for one lady and a few servants, who I seem to remember wore uniforms. While mum visited with Miss Kynoch in her bedroom, dad and I were either in the conservatory watching the birds in the aviary or walking around the large gardens and then had afternoon tea. I was only ever allowed to visit her room once, and then only for a short time. Poor dad he was firmly on the ground floor. I seem to remember the house is just off the main road and probably just off the junction, I would love to find the house again. I think Miss Kynochs family were from Keith as she now rests in the cemetery there Does anyone know the house I mean and can point me in the direction for my visit next month. regards and happy hunting Carol
