I would think all of them eventually. findyourpast is slowly putting all government records (or for BMD, the index) in England on line. It is a pay to view site with as-you-go or annual subscription plans. Images to date have been high quality. The current research costs for the National Archives is why this announcement got me excited. -- Jo-Ann Croft -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: Cameron MCBAIN <clmcbain@rogers.com> > I paid a good bundle to have a researcher go to Kew for me to look at Chelsea > records - no regrets, that's the way the techno ball bounces. > > How much of the records will be online?
I paid a good bundle to have a researcher go to Kew for me to look at Chelsea records - no regrets, that's the way the techno ball bounces. How much of the records will be online? Sorry should have made the last section more clear just looked on my tree again, this time for Alexander Simpson Riach and found one born in 1854 in Edinburgh (?), the son of William Riach and Helen. William b 1835 in Elgin, was the son of Alexander RIACH and Jean Smith. The 1901 census tells Simpson was born c 1864 - so it looks like another Riach problem !!! Thanks to all that have repiled to my message yesterday. The map was fascinating! History of the area amazing, might try and get the book as I love the social history aspect of my hobby as well! I have looked on GRO Scotland site and yes they were both prisoners... I had wondered if this was a branch of the workhouse and they were just inmates. Going to get some more information as suggested from Elgin Local Studies! Thanks once again. Dave
Still no mention of a criminal record ( strange) ! But here is Ann Fench on LIBINDX. Why don't you go to the site and ask for a newspaper or the poor relief records look up? The poor relief records may give some information on the prison time and reason http://libindx.moray.gov.uk For your information LADY Lane is a street in Elgin immortalised in Jessie Kesson's acclaimed autobiographical novel 'The White Bird Passes'. Here is a link to the Elgin town map on the NLS website. Hi Carol I have the same as you. I suspect this one is an illegitimate son of Simpson bn in 1834,but no proof. This Simpson also changes names from Simpson to Simpson Alexander Riach. Alexander could be his Grandfather Alexander Riach. Since I couldn't find him in the 1911 Canadian census, I checked the 1912 Toronto City directory (www.archive.org - the 'read online' version is the best), and there was a John Watson, occupation 'cond' boarding at 64 Hillsboro Ave. I looked up that address in the 1911 census and found a John Wilson, born Apr 1878, born Scotland, occupation streetcar conductor, who immigrated in 1902. If you look closely at the image - the 'l' might actually be a 't', and the birth date matches. No sign of a child. http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census11/SplitView.jsp?id=81749 Robin -----Original Message----- From: moray-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:moray-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Mandy Wilson Sent: January-04-10 4:50 PM To: moray@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MORAY] maggie findlay Goldie / Robin Many thanks for your advice.
