Why one twin would make such a large move by himself? Did they keep in touch? With any luck they might have family photos (that they labeled) we could share. thanks, Cindy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You can see a transcription online at http://freecen.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl and an image of the original at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk The 1881 census lists Jas Fraser, married, age 32, gamekeeper, born Edinkillie as a visitor in the household of Walter Neilson, iron moulder, 29, born Glasgow and his wife isabella Ferguson, 28, born Callander at 115 Renfield street in Glasgow. So you are right in saying that he became a gamekeeper. You need to check the other censuses (1871, 1891, 1901) to see where he was living and working, who his wife was and whether they had any children. Perhaps someone who has access to Ancestry could look him up in their index, then you will be able to find the original at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk at modest cost. Hope this helps. Author: Forfarian Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.mor.general/2380.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Isabella Ross, aged 4, is with the Ross family in 1841. You should be able to view full transcriptions of these censuses at http://freecen.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl If the Drainie Kirk Session minutes don't give any more information about Margaret Fraser, then I reckon your chances of finding her are not good. There is a slim chance that, if Isabella died in Scotland, her death certificate might say what her mother's married name was, if any. There are 12 apparently unattached Margaret Frasers of suitable age living in Moray and listed in the FreeCen transcription of the 1841 census: (1) age 20, servant at Turnatrippe and Delmullian, Dallas (2) age 20, servant at Cotts of Bergie, Rafford (3) age 20, servant at Sheriffston, St Andrews-Lhanbryd (4) age 25, no occupation, at Waterford, Elgin (5) age 25, servant in High Street, Forres (6) age 20, no occupation, in McBean's Close, Elgin (7) age 20, servant, in Duffas Close, Elgin (8) age 20, labourer, in Hopeman, Duffus (9) age 34, no occupation, in Cumming Street, Forres (10) age 21, servant, in Cumming Street, Forres (11) age 25, no occupation, in Lossiemouth, Drainie (12) age 20, no occupation, at Easter Lodge, Dyke Note that in the 1841 census ages were supposed to be rounded down to the nearest 5 years, so 'age 20' means 'aged 20 to 25' and so on. So all of these are potential candidates to be your Margaret Fraser. There is of course no guarantee that your one had not died or left the county between 1836 and 1841, so it need not necessarily be any of these 12 possibles. I note with interest that the one in Lossiemouth is with James Fraser, 65 and Isabella Fraser, 56 and three children, Alex Mason, 8, Margaret Fraser, 5 and Georgina Grant, 9 months. It might be interesting to check the Kirk Session minutes to see who their mothers were, and specifically, if any of them are also Margaret's children, whether the minutes say how many times Margaret had been brought to their attention for unmarried pregnancies. (A 'relapse' means the second time, and a 'trilapse' means a third time. I don't think I've seen a fourth time, but it would possibly be something like a 'quadrilapse'.) Hope this helps. 2. Ramp, William
    3. While I never met George Watt face-to-face, he quietly gave me immeasurable help with my searches. Like the late and lamented Stuart Mitchell, George had a deep and encyclopedic knowledge, not only of the families, but also of their context: the local history, society, geography and religion of Glenlivet, Inveravon, the Cabrach, Mortlach and Aberlour. He was a living link to the auld fowk an thair weys. He will be missed by many. We are sure this collection will enhance your ability to find out about your family history and may enable you to break down some research brick walls. Why the Chelsea Pensioners records are so useful The records offer a wealth of detail such as next of kin, profession, physical appearance, some medical information and service history. Each record has at least four images and many have more than six. * The whole collection is vast. It comprises over 9 million full colour images of the service records of soldiers in the British Army in receipt of a pension administered by The Royal Hospital Chelsea, and who were discharged between the dates 1760 and 1913. We have launched the first tranche and well be [10]adding more data on a regular basis over the coming eighteen months. * Many of the soldiers listed may have served in some of Britain's most significant wars, including the Battle of Waterloo (1815), the Crimean (1853-1856) and both Boer Wars (1899-1902). Many citizens were in the army during this period and it is highly possible that your ancestors are included in these records. Find out more about [11]army life during the period. * Many Irish and colonial soldiers served in the British Army in the period so you could find information on relatives you can't find elsewhere. * The collection comprises records of ordinary soldiers, rather than the officer class, so provides a detailed record of the thousands of ordinary soldiers serving at this time. * You can find out about [12]what your ancestors actually looked like. There are detailed descriptions of their physique including any distinguishing features like tattoos or scars. Keep abreast of updates in our newsletter We will keep you updated of any new records which are added to the collection on site and in our newsletter. We anticipate the whole collection will be available by November 2011. I doubt if it will tell you anything more than you already know. It refers not to an article, but to a death announcement (i.e. a paid advertisement in the classified section of the Moray Advertiser) which will read along the lines of "Innes. At Craighead, Glenlivet, on 15th December 1861, William Innes, farmer, aged 83". If the advertisement had contained anything more, such as the name(s) of his wife/parents/children, then the additional information would also have been included in the LIBINDX entry. If it had been described as 'Obituary' or 'Article', it would have been worth getting, because it would be a short article about the life of the subject, possibly including some information about the family.
