    1. Re: [MORAY] Wm JAMIESON m.1720? Isabell MORTIMER/Geo JAMIESON m.1717? Marjory...
    2. Hi George The Bellie OPR shows: (1) William Jamison and Isabel Mortimer had seven children between 1720 and 1736. George born 1720, Burnside, christened 30 Jan 1720, witnesses George Jamison, Bogmoor and George Geddes in Auchinreath. John born 1722, Dryburn, christened 7 May 1722, witnesses John Miln, Culriach and John Mortimer, Glenrinnes. Andrew born 1724, Dryburn, christened 5 Jul 1724, witnesses Andrew Innes, Floods and Andrew Jamison, Bogmoor. William born 1727, Bogmoor, christened 12 Sep 1727, witnesses William Innes, Floods and William Robertson, Culriach. Thomas and Alexander (twins) born Dryburn, 1730, christened 11 Feb 1730, witnesses Alexander Innes and Nans Innes and Margaret Mitchell, Walheads (probably Wellheads). Margaret born Dryburn 1736, christened 30 Mar 1736, witnesses James Paterson, Cowiemuir, Robert Sherar, Bellie. (2) George Jamison and Marjory Gatherer had five children between 1717 and 1737. Margrat born Bogmoor 1717, christened 20 Jul 1717, witnesses Andrew Innes, Floods and William Gordon, Culriach Alexander born Bogmuir 1719, christened 26 Jul 1719, witnesses Al (Alexander ?) Morison, Floods and Al Innes, Dryburn. Elspet born Bogmuir 1727, christened 31 Jan 1727, witnesses William Robertson, Culriach, James Taylor, Bogmuir and William Jamison, Dryburn. John born Bogmuir 1731, christened 25 Sep 1731, witnesses John Gordon, Portioner, Upper Dallachie and John Annand Upper Dallachie. George born Bogmuir 1734, christened 15 Dec 1734, witnesses George Anderson, Dallachie, George Moor, Culriach and George Burges, Upper Auchinreath. Unfortunately, the Bellie OPR only goes back to 1709 for Births and 1723 for Marriages so I cannot give you any information regarding the marriages of these couples. The Speyside MIs pre 1855 (stone 143) shows Geo Jameson, fr N Dallachy 23.6.1780 61, w Kath Innes 29.6.1780 63, s Alex 6.2.1782 25, da Hellen 22.12.1789 30, ed by Jas Geddes in N Auchinreath their.........(rest of inscription hidden) John Jameson at Bogmoor 24.12.1910 86, w Helen Stewart 16.8.1908 82. This George would appear to be the son of William and Isabel and the John who died in 1910 would be his brother. The ages on the inscription do not exactly match the christening records in the OPR but this is not an uncommon occurrence. The MIs also list a John Jamieson, feuar Fochabers 28.5.1860 80, w Agnes Longmore 1848 60. s geo 3.3.1831 16. and T Smith esq surgeon Fochabers, w Jane 6.5.1837 50. gch inf (.......of John Jameson esq).....(rest of stone covered by broken headstone) Unfortunately, this does not give any positive links between the two couples although you will notice that they appear to have been witnesses at the christening of a child of the other which could indicate they were brothers or cousins. There is also an Andrew Jamison, Bogmoor shown as a witness at the christening of Andrew Jamison in 1730. I have noticed in my research of this Parish it was quite common for the witnesses at the christening of a son to have the same given name as the child being christened. While this also happened with daughters it was not so consistent. I hope this is of some use to you. Ian A C Scott

    3. Hi George, I have an Ann Jamieson in my tree. What I do know is that Ann Jamieson married Alexander Davidson. They had at least one child, James Davidson born 1786 in Rathven. That is all I know. I too have hit a brick wall. Here is the info I received from the Moray Council - "Since James Davidson and Helen Simpson were married in the RomanCatholic Church and their children were baptized into it, it seems probablethat his parents Alexander Davidson and Ann Jamieson were also members. Unfortunately the earliest known surviving Catholic baptism records for the Buckie area are 1787 (Preshome, Enzie) and marriage are 1794. We have found no mention of Alexander and Ann Davidson in these records. Similarly we have found no mention of them on a legible gravestone in Moray. It may prove fruitful to contact the Scottish Catholic Archives:- http://www.catholic-heritage.net/sca/genealogy.htm I have not contact the the catholic heritage yet. 1. Parents of William M. GRANT
    2. Gay King
    3. Hi, I have been trying for some months to solve the identity of William M. GRANT who in the 1901 census, Aberlour, Banff, is living at 7 East Derrybeg, with James Stuart, Head, age 63 Farmer, born Banffshire, Aberlour Jean Stuart, wife, age 62 b. Morayshire, St Andrews Jean M. Stuart, daughter, single, age 38, born Morayshire, Forres Robert J. Stuart, son, age 19, born Banffshire, Aberlour William M. Grant, grandson, age 13, born Banffshire, Aberlour 'Jean M. Stuart' is actually 'Jean McIntosh', natural born daughter of Jean McBeath Stuart (wife of James here in the census). Jean McIntosh had two illegitimate children previously with John Grant: James Grant born 1880 and Jessie Ann born 1884. John Grant, the father of these children, was born in 1857 at Whitehorse, Edinvillie, Aberlour to John Grant and Janet Stuart. I have spent a fortune searching for a birth record for William M. Grant on Scotland's People and have not found a single satisfactory entry. I have concluded that he is the 3rd child of Jean McIntosh and John Grant but I cannot prove that. If anyone knows who the parents of William M. Grant are, please let me know! Thanks, Gay

    2. Hi Portgordon was originally in the Parish of Rathven but the western part of Rathven and the eastern part of Bellie were formed into a Parish named Enzie and Portgordon was part of this new parish. If you go to _http://www.abdn.net/genuki/BAN/Enzie/index.html_ (http://www.abdn.net/genuki/BAN/Enzie/index.html) you will get a full story of Enzie Parish and see reference to Portgordon. 3. Ray, I saw your message on the list, was wondering if you have found anything on Farquharsons, Mortlach parish- 1840-42?? I'm still searching anywhere I can think of, but no luck with James or his parent, James Farquharson and Jane Grant. As you know I have James from 1882 in NZ, but before that is still a mystery. Thought I had some leads on Jane Grant and James the father but they were different families. I am waiting for more certificates from NZ about the children of young James, when I get them I'll send you the info so you can add it to your lists in case someone else is looking too. 3. G'day Cobbers, I have reason to believe that John McLEAN b. 08 Sep 1867, Garmouth, Moray, Scotland [Parents: Charles & Mary (nee CLARK) McLEAN], is to be found in the Elgin area, where he was living, working and possibly died. I don't know if he married or if he had any children. Any information or assistance with my g-g uncle would be greatly appreciated. 1. GRANT/McLEAN Surname
    2. Greg Baldwin
    3. G'day Cobbers, Have some information on my McLEAN ancestry on my homepage: http://member.melbpc.org.au/~kennethb/ McLEAN - Garmouth, Moray, SCT>Qld, AUS Below is part of an email from a third cousin of mine, recently "discovered", which relates to the GRANT surname: "Yes this Bella (McLEAN) is the one we are interested in. She is the daughter of Charles McLean and Elspet Dean hence my mother's aunt. She married David Grant and they had one daughter also called Bella. It was she who went to Australia about 1949ish but she was married by then and as yet I have not found her married name. A couple of years later her parents Bella and David followed her out and remained there where they presumably died. I have no idea where they settled but I believe most emigrants then went to Melbourne and Sydney. Bella Grant may still be alive and would be about 84 yrs old now. No 34 Royston Mains Crescent Edinburgh, where Elspet Dean died was the home of Charles McLean and Marjory Wilson {my mothers parents} and Elspet Dean lived with them for the last 3 years of her life. Previously to this she lived at 10 Caledonian Crescent Edinburgh. Royston Mains Crescent was also where my parents lived when I was born so was my first home." Is anybody able to assist me with the surname of Bella GRANT's husband. I am trying to trace this family in Australia but need Bella's married name. Look forward to hearing from any McLEAN relatives. There is no other Jessie McCaskie in the 1881 census in the north of Scotland, so it looks as if this isn't your Jessie Dean. A look at Maggie's or Catherine's birth certificate would sort this out. The IGI also lists the marriage of a Jessie Dean to Alexander McNeil on 9 December 1870 in New Spynie, and the following children: Mary, born 11 December 1870 James, born 15 December 1872 William Dean, born 7 November 1874 and this looks like the family in 1881: Dwelling: Kirkton Farm Ho Census Place: Cromdale, Elgin, Scotland Source: FHL Film 0203431 GRO Ref Volume 128-B2 EnumDist 2 Page 11 Marr Age Sex Birthplace Alexr. This time, a look at the birth certificate of Divina (Davina?) Riach would sort this out. There are four other Margarets in the 1881 census in northern Scotland described as 'wife', born in Elgin and aged 29 to 32 (Margaret Geddes Dean would have been 30 on the day of the 1881 Census). Of these Margarets, the wife of James Dey is Margaret Sim; the wife of Andrew Grant is Margaret Nicol; and the wife of John Melville is presumably Margaret Rose; and Maggie Morrison was probably Maggie McLean Wright. In the south of Scotland there are eight more Elgin-born wives named Margaret of similar age. The wife of Archibald Hendry is Margaret James; the wife of Francis Logie is Margaret Cameron; the wife of John McLean is Margaret Steven; the wife of James Robertson is Margaret Ann Murray. I cannot identify the wives of Thomas Clarke, Mr Gilchrist, William Smith or Robert Young using only the IGI and 1881 Census, but as all but William Smith have children, a look at three birth certificates and one marriage certificate should sort this out. I assume that you have the 1881 census CDs and can look all these records up for yourself, but if not let me know and I'll send them to you. Are you sure that Margaret Geddes Dean survived to adulthood? Perhaps she emigrated? Best wishes Anne
