Hi George I was going through the list of Burials in the Bellie OPR 126/3 and found the following: 16 Jan 1838 John Jamieson, Bogmuir, Aged 61 6 Dec 1840 George Jamieson, Late Fochabers, Aged 95 9 Feb 1843 Francis Jamieson, Bogmuir, Died in Spey, Aged 40 2 Oct 1843 Helen Jamieson, Bogmuir, Aged 81 10 Jul 1847 Ann Longmore Jamieson, Aged 68 6 Jun 1847 Janet Jamieson Smith, Bogmuir, Aged 96 4 May 1847 William Jamieson, Bogmuir, Aged 27 6 May 1851 Mary Gray Jamieson, Bogmuir, Aged 77 Where the entry relates to a female and it has three names I have found that the middle one is usually her maiden name in the records of this Parish. Hope this is of some interest to you. Ian A C Scott
Hi Diane By 1946 the control of all burial grounds rested with the local council who will have the records and I would therefore suggest that you contact Moray District Council in connection with your enquiry. I know that the Registrar at Banff holds the burial records for that area and, perhaps, the Registrar at Elgin will hold those you seek. Her email address is _heather.greig@moray.gov.uk_ (mailto:heather.greig@moray.gov.uk) and I am sure she will advise you if you contact her. Ian A C Scott
Gay, I don't know if the Aberlour Kirk Session Minutes exist for the relevant period (or even if the Kirk Session was scrutinizing illegitimacies as that time - mine were somewhat earlier 1830s and 1840s), but in those records you may find the father named, parents summoned before the Kirk Session etc etc. Just a thought for possible extra detail and confirmation of the Grant father! Hi Anne, He was age 3 in the 1891 and age 13 in the 1901 so I think I have him covered. I hope to find him in the marriage department! Thank you for your help. Can anyone help me please with the following. My elder brother is buried in Alves churchyard but has no headstone due to the fact that my parents, at the time, could not afford this. I have the booklet produced on the churchyard but am looking to find out how I might obtain a copy of the burial registration from the church records. He was buried in January 1946, aged 1. Any help with this much appreciated. Thanks, Diane

David Duffus, the producer & webmaster of www.duffus.com has died. I am unsure how much longer the website will be 'up' so anyone with an interest in the name or parish/barony of Duffus should go there and 'unload' now. Gordon

G'day Cobbers, Have some information on my McLEAN ancestry on my homepage: http://member.melbpc.org.au/~kennethb/ McLEAN - Garmouth, Moray, SCT>Qld, AUS Below is part of an email from a third cousin of mine, recently "discovered", which relates to the GRANT surname: "Yes this Bella (McLEAN) is the one we are interested in. She is the daughter of Charles McLean and Elspet Dean hence my mother's aunt. She married David Grant and they had one daughter also called Bella. It was she who went to Australia about 1949ish but she was married by then and as yet I have not found her married name. A couple of years later her parents Bella and David followed her out and remained there where they presumably died. I have no idea where they settled but I believe most emigrants then went to Melbourne and Sydney. Bella Grant may still be alive and would be about 84 yrs old now. No 34 Royston Mains Crescent Edinburgh, where Elspet Dean died was the home of Charles McLean and Marjory Wilson {my mothers parents} and Elspet Dean lived with them for the last 3 years of her life. Previously to this she lived at 10 Caledonian Crescent Edinburgh. Royston Mains Crescent was also where my parents lived when I was born so was my first home." Is anybody able to assist me with the surname of Bella GRANT's husband. I am trying to trace this family in Australia but need Bella's married name. Look forward to hearing from any McLEAN relatives. Hi George I have now had time to have a look at your thoughts on the list of Births/christenings I sent you and would not disagree with what you say as regards the probability (a strong one) of Andrew, William and George being brothers. The thought had occurred to me when I was transcribing the information and preparing the message. Since then I have had a further look at the Film and cannot find a marriage entry for George Jamieson and Margaret Ritchie although I did find the birth of their son George on 11 April 1786 and his Christening on 14th with George Badenoch and George Simpson both in Fochabers being the witnesses. I also came across the marriage entry on 17 Aug 1784 for a John Smith and Jannet Jamieson both in the Parish of Bellie who were matrimonially contracted. On 11 Nov 1775 there is an entry which shows that James Geddes and Anne Jamieson, both in the Parish, gave up their names to be proclaimed in order to marriage and were married on 28 Nov 1775. Finally, on 18 Dec 1800 there is the entry for the baptism of a child named Janet, Lawful Daughter, to John Jamieson and Elizabeth Packman, born in Bogmoor where the witnesses were Janet Simpson and John Jamieson. Don't know whether this clears the field or muddies it but as I came across this lot along the way I thought I would pass it on. Regards Ian
Hi Ian, What do you think of the following observations/theories? > (1) William Jamison and Isabel Mortimer had seven children > between 1720 and > 1736. > > George born 1720, Burnside, christened 30 Jan 1720, witnesses George > Jamison, Bogmoor and George Geddes in Auchinreath.
