    3. Although Banff is on the edge of Moray, I´ll try a posting here as well. Agda or Allen (37 yrs), Marion (11 yrs) and Helen Innes (9 yrs) went to Sweden with destination Goteborg from New York, USA in May 1937. It seems as if they were American citizens visiting Sweden, as they returned to USA in August the same year. Their residence is Thomaston, Conn., according to the shipping agent. There's also a Hilda Innes, travelling alone, that leaves Goteborg in February 1928. She is married, lives in Melrose, Ma. USA. It might be a relation between Hilda and Agda - e.g. mother-daughter. One other interesting person is Dr Stanley N. Innes, leaving with the ship Gripsholm (a Swedish liner) from New York to Goteborg in May 1935. Dr Innes is living in San Francisco, Ca. No further information on him has been found. There's a possibility that they are linked to either William Innes (b. 1748) from Banff in Scotland, or to his twin brother Alexander Innes, who lived in Goteborg during the late 1760´s until he died 1818. William went to USA in the 1760´s while his twin brother Alex went to Sweden. Alexander is my wife's GGGGF. Is there anyone who recognises the three ladies or the doctor visiting Sweden? If my theory is correct, they still have relatives overseas. Regards Kaj Andersson

    1. PHILIP, Photographs and Libindx
    2. Karin
    3. Hello all, I joined the list a few days ago, and was delighted to learn of the new Libindx at moray.org. I am researching the PHILIP family in Morayshire, and found references to several members of my family, including Alexander Philip (NM139191) and his wife Annie McLaren (NM139214). I noticed that there is a space for photographs in the Libindx files; I have posted photographs of Alexander and Annie at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lanternlane/6215224/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/lanternlane/6215357/ certainly anyone is welcome to link, copy and use them. Click on the link "View different sizes" in the right column if you want to download or use a permanent link to the picture alone. I am also fortunate (or frustrated?) to have an old family album with the inscription "Alexander Philip, 1872" that contains many unidentified photographs. If anyone has family with connections to this branch of the PHILIP or MCLAREN family, the entire album is up at http://www.flickr.com/groups/philip_1872/ -- along with some photos from other sources on that side of the family. I've listed photographers and places in the group discussion, and each photograph is tagged with this data as well. For example, it's possible to click on the tag "elgin" to find all the photographs taken there. At the moment, the group discussion is limited to invitation, although anyone can view the photographs. If there is any general interest in these photographs beyond my own immediate family, I'd be happy to open the group more generally. As far as genealogy goes, I've traced Alexander back to David PHILIP (NM139247) and Margaret CRUICKSHANK, but am unable as yet to find any reference to his father, who I believe was a William Philip. Is anyone here researching this family? -- Karin Armstrong "You are what you eat.  For example, if you eat garlic you're apt to be a hermit."  ~Franklin P. Jone

    3. Hi Holly, May I take advantage of your generous offer please? This is a copy of a message I put on the MS board but without any response: "I am trying to trace George McGREGOR, the son of Donald McGREGOR and Margaret COCKER, b 8 March 1854, Fyvie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. There is no trace of him on-line in the IGI 1881 British census but there is a record in the 1880 census for Pittsfield, Berkshire MA that looks promising. I would be grateful for any follow up that might prove or disprove this link." If it is not stretching hospitality too far, I have also been trying, without success, to get a lead for a friend on a Gomer DAVIES who left for the US in 1912 with all his money apparently, leaving his wife (the friend's grandmother) and four children alone in the UK. I have traced him on the Ellis Island site but haven't been able to get a lead in a US census. There was one person of the same name but he was before Gomer's arrival in the US. This Gomer DAVIES arrived on the "Baltic" April 6 1912 when he was age 40. He was born in Aberdare, South Wales. 3. Peter, There are 8 George Mcgregor's born in Scotland in the US in 1880 (at least with that spelling). The only one near your birthdate is the one in Pittsfield. Looks like living in a 4-family dwelling, with wife Harriett and son Roy, age 3. Works in a woolen mill. He is born in Scotland and both his parents also, Harriett and her parents born New York. Most everyone on that page works in the woolen mill. I could send you a printout of the page if you give me your snail mail address. But then a quick search does not turn them up in the next censuses. I will look some more after work. It seems unlikely that all of them died... I see someone who looks like your Gomer Davies in Baltimore, MD in 1920 and 1930, I don't have time to look at the details now, but I will later. 3. The US federal census is every 10 years from 1790 - 1930, except for 1890, which unfortunately burned. From 1790-1840, only the head of household is listed by name, with a count of his or her household and ages. From 1850, everyone is listed, and there are some different pieces of information in each different year, but usually at least age, occupation and state/country of birth, and in some years much more data.
