    3. Thank you so much for this Maureen. I had looked at LIBINDX earlier and found nothing.... now I think I must've been looking under MITCHELL and perhaps not TAYLOR. I am using Firefox, thus thought that was my problem, even though I believed I had that part of it under control! However, I have just typed in the reference no and came up with your wonderful results. It is so WONDERFUL to know that there is a Newspaper reference also. Thanks again! 1. Torrie Family in Rafford
    2. Alan Conchie
    3. I am exploring the TORRIE family in Rafford in the 19th Century. Variations of the family name are TORRY and TORY. I have used the Moray Heritage LIBINDX, the ScotlandsPeople and the IGI sites and have a number of records related to individuals between the 1780's and 1830's. I feel that these have given me all I'm likely to get from them. Jane Torrie, born c.1819 in Rafford married Alexander Paterson in 1840 but I have been told that the 1851 census shows her living at Woodside in Altyre, looking after a child of 5 months called Jessie Torrie. This, together with other TORRIE births in the 1820's and 1830's and another wedding in 1846 leads me to think that there are several Torrie families in Rafford from which my Jane Torrie has come. I do not have access to the early census returns and so I'm wondering if anyone who can get at them might be able to do a lookup for me in any of those available. Any linkages would be extremely helpful. If anyone else is investigating TORRIE/TORRY/TORY I would be very pleased to share what I have. Many thanks Alan Conchie

For a minimal fee of an Exploratory Search was (£95 sterling) if you can afford it, I found it to be very reliable. Also have you tried http://britishorigins.com/ It may be of interest to you, but I was married to Donald Malcolm Cameron, died June 1996. his family first arrived from Scotland to Maine, United States, then they settled in mid 1900's in Ohio. He still has two surviving brothers and a sister in Ohio and Indiana area. One was a Sherif in his County. But I have never worked on that family tree. However this information may help you search those two States.
