    3. Hi Kathy No luck this time. You may have to wait for Anne to return from the smoke where I believe she has been having fun and leaving us all to suffer. [Only joking, Anne. You deserve your break.] Given Anne's comments about Inner = Inver, i.e. where a small stream meets a bigger one, I have looked along the Burn of Allachie on the 1896 (1") and 2002 (2.5") maps in the possibility that "Inver-Allachie" might have become "Innerdalich". There is a cottage or croft called the Burnside of Allachie at NJ282415 and the burn joins the Burn of Aberlour near the Cottartown distillery. But no Innerdalich or variations on it. As Anne says, the introduction of the letter "d" is odd, but presumably quite possible. I can't get access to the National Library of Scotland [Google on "nls"] at the moment but you might like to try later. Look at the digital maps of Aberdeenshire & Banff which should show the 1832 map of Aberlour in the bottom left quadrant. Anne has a wealth local knowledge and should be able to help if anyone can. I'm in the south of England so not much use to anyone really. Sorry. But, I can't find what the 'MF' stands for, and the 'A'. If I understand correctly, the 'Ab1' appears to be Aberlour???? I think. So would Innerdalich be in Aberlour? Your help is appreciated. But, I can't > find what the 'MF' stands for, and the 'A'. They are the Moray Heritage Centre's own references to the source material 'MF' means microfilm'; the 'A' tells me it is a parish register and the next bit tells me which one, though as it says Aberlour in the index I don't need this to find the right one. > If I understand correctly, > the 'Ab1' appears to be Aberlour???? Yes. > So would Innerdalich be in Aberlour? Very probably. At the moment I am in Edinburgh so I don't have access to my reference material, so I can't search for it. But places which begin with 'inner...' are usually 'inver...' places, that is, where a smaller water feature merges into a larger one. As this death was in 1733, the present village of (Charlestown of) Aberlour did not exist at the time of the burial. I am tempted to speculate that 'Innerdalich' might perhaps have been somewhere about the mouth of the Burn of Allachie, but please don't take that as a certain thing, not least because that makes no allowance for the 'd' in the middle (I would expect 'Inverallachie' if it were indeed the mouth of the Allachie Burn). Hope this helps Anne

    3. Ian, Thanks for looking for James, unfortunately he is not mine. His parents are John Farquharson and Anne Stewart, my James parents were James Farquharson and Jane Grant, I think they were in Angus in the 41 census, only ones I've found that match in a few ways. My James was supposed to be in New Zealand by 1867, but cant prove it so far. If I dont find mine, I may claim this James as mine, I have a lot of his family as I thought he was mine and found his siblings etc. THEN, got the death certificate from New Zealand for my James and had to start again. 3. OK, one more question. Does anyone have a listing of those buried in Aberlour or Banff Shire? Most of my Murrays and other lines have the 'Ab1' reference to where they are buried. I wondered which Murrays might be buried there together? Is there a film, and/or website or any research tool I can look at that might determine other names buried closeby? 3. Pat, Sorry, no extra James Duguids, but I did have a John Gordon who was in Auchindoir in 1841 census. Cant find him before 1841 either. I have plenty of James Farquharsons around that 1835-38, none of them seem to be mine. I will accept any John Gordons who were 20 in 1841 who have no family, actually I'll accept any old strays at the moment. All my cats are strays, so my family may as well be the same. There was quite a correspondence at the end of last year about Jessie/Jesse and everyone [you know who you are!] tried to tell me that Jesse is ONLY used for males. We've found a number of sources which show that Jesse and Jessie can both be used for either sex, but I'm always on the look out for more unusual spellings. If anyone is researching the YOUNG family, there may be more connections to be found. Best, Karin Armstrong

    3. I am researching my McQuiban ancestors. My maternal grandmother was Jesse Raff McQuiban born Forres 1896. My GGGG Grandparents appear to be William McQuiban (McQueban) and Elspet Anderson who were living at Whitemoss, Dallas when the 1811 Census was conducted. Is anyone else researching this particular McQuiban line? Ian Jackson

    3. Thank you to all who responded to my posting "Why bother to collect a photograph". My own opinion is that in our busy lives we put things aside and on rediscovering them later are too embarrassed to make contact. I would encourage all who find themselves in that position to still follow through. Our hobby does have a timeless element to it but people do drop out and then the chance to link in to their hard won research may be permanently lost.
