    3. HELLO List, I saw some enquiries about Army records on this list. My Experience, I knew my chappies name, + 1st foot Regiment, Scots Royals, and Rough dates, 1840/50. I went on the Internet to National Archives, England, Click on Military, and went through several pages, Put in my chappies name, and up came a brief resume' of his Hist. with a Ref Number, Applied for his papers, they wrote back with a quote for photo copying, was reasonable, and after what seem like for ever, (I'm an impatient researcher) actually about 10 days, -- paid for it with Credit Card. Up on the screen it all came, was absolutely chuffed. I think they would do research for you but of course it would cost. He actually joined in 1831 in Elgin Morayshire, and was retired in 1843 through a non-combatant accident. But the records were held in England. Finally he was a private not an officer, so didn't really expect to find him So that was my fantastic experience on Army Records. Pearl M.

    3. Margaret, Following Anne Burgess's Posting, is your Janet JAMIESON the one baptised 12 Jan 1825 Rathven to William JAMIESON and Margaret CALDER? I have details of her pedigree stretching back to early 1700s on a couple of lines. I personally don't have any direct interest. But a niece of Janet JAMIESON was Agnes JAMIESON whose first husband was James GEDDES who is one of mine, and I have lots of info on their family coming forward. Howard Geddes

    3. John: Probably no connection but in case...............I have a James Forsyth b. 16 Oct 1808 Duffus, Moray who married into my CALDER'S (Nairn). I would love to repay the kindness I have found from others on this list. This is quite possibly the best of the best (Ayr a close second if not tied!) Very, very informative and lively. During my research, I found another person who was researching FORSYTH'S that tied into the marriage mentioned above. This person had quite a few FORSYTH'S and a lot of WFT EST. on the records; however, no Isabella's in your timeframe. I wrote to the author of this tree to get more information, but the letter was returned "no longer at this address". I would be happy to send you the GEDCOM (if I can remember what the file name is - letters - numerals) I do have the file in FTW format. If you think this may be of help to you, please contact me. 3. Hello, I am trying to trace my mothers side of the family. I am fairly confident that her grandfather who was Joseph Taylor is the same who was born in St Andrews Lhanbryd 4th March 1861 as Joseph Forsyth Taylor. His parents were William Taylor and Margaret Forsyth and married St Andrews Lhanbryd 27th May 1843. They were said to be related to William Taylor, sheriff/clerk of Dornoch, born Tain 5th January 1778. Joseph Taylor, it is said lived next door to Ramsay Macdonald in Lossiemouth as a boy, worked as a young man in the police force and later moved down to London. He then became a Freemason and also worked at Middlesex Hospital as head of catering. He lived in Goodge Street with his family. He had four daughters and one son, William Gladstone Taylor who was my mothers father. I would be delighted if someone could supply some links or any kind of information that may help. Best wishes, Tony Savery

There were several John Simpsons, none of exactly the right age and born in St Andrews-Lhanbryd, and rather fewer Margarets, none born in Drainie. Are you sure they were still alive in 1891? Anne
