Angela, what other details do you have? Especially occupations, and Margaret HENDERSON's parents? The 1891 census index has these people (one family?) in Elgin district ref 135-013-004, which fits with an 1861 birth. John GEDDES 30 Margaret J GEDDES 27 (prob his wife) Alexander GEDDES 2 (prob their son) In 1881, John Geddes was a Tinsmith, born "Dalvey, Elgin". I already had a question mark against them, wondering whether he was John GEDDES born 23-Jun-1859 Dyke to William GEDDES and Barbara SMITH. I know about this couple. Tell you more if there's a connection, otherwise it'll just confuse right now. Note the name Barbara in common, though. I now see that there is a Margaret J HENDERSON in 1881: Dwelling: 56 Mealvennel. This is a pretty long-odds possibility, and a look at the actual census could well destroy this theory, but if none of 'your' names seem to exist, perhaps they are not the right names. Regards Howard Geddes PS I'll be off-air for a week or so.
Have you considered that John GEDDES may have been born illegitimately and that his birth is registered as John MORRISON? I checked the IGI and the only birth I could find to a Barbara MORRISON was on 21 Aug 1861 at Glasgow, Lanarkshire. It's a long shot, but it might be worth checking out. Thank you Tony and Lorna for your input, doesn't matter Tony if it wasn't right. I think it helps you think about it differently and yes Lorna I had found that entry for John Morrison. I felt it was too far away to have been mine (maybe) and it lists just Barbara Morrison, no father. But it is a bit too coincidental isn't it. Any suggestions on how to prove it ? I have found in the 1871 census Barbara and son James, not John 9yrs living with her parents. Sooooo I feel they could be mine but how to prove it is another thing. Many thanks Angela
Hi Ray, would it be possible for you to look at Aberlour Baptisms for children of JAMES McKERRON[c-1762] and MARGARET CLARK.[c-1758] married 5/06/1787. Their Headstone in Aberlour cemetery says that they lived in Knockside and had 5 sons and 3 daughters. As yet i have only 4 children: JEAN[c-1790] ,ANN[c-1792], PETER[23/03/1796], JAMES [c-1801] . Would you have anything on a John Innes who died on the 15 July 1863 in Aberlour. It shows he died in Sockach. Hi Ray. Would you have anything on a John Innes. His death extract states that he died 15 July 1863 at the age of 59 in Sockach in the Parish of Aberlour. It also shows that he was married to Ann Forbes. His parents were John Innes and Elspet Innes. Hi Ray Could you have a look at the 1861 Census for Baillies in Mortlach? It is probable that there will be an Isabella Baillie, Widow, at Easter Brawlands with a young family. Her husband was George Baillie and their last child was born in 1852 but I can find no trace of him after that time. Many Thanks Ian A C Scott

Anyone have a connection to John GEDDES who married Margaret HENDERSON in Lossiemouth in 1885. His parents recorded in his marriage were James GEDDES and Barbara MORRISON both deceased. Unfortunately I cannot find their deaths nor does John's birth seem to be recorded even though it was about 1861. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Angela
Thank you to Lorna for that correction and very useful information. That has certainly explained some things. Also my apologies to Angela for that bit of useless information that I offered. I'll keep taking the tablets! Hi Tony I believe Lossiemouth is in the Parish of Drainie, Moray. St Andrews Lhanbryd and Elgin are separate parishes which are nearby. Hello Angela, I believe I am right in saying that for searches for folk from Lossiemouth, you have to look under St. Andrews Lhanbryde or Elgin. Please correct me if I am wrong someone. I am myself trying to find where my great grandfather, Joseph Forsyth Taylor,(born 1861) had lived in Lossiemouth. He was said to have lived next door to Ramsay Macdonald and it would be nice to know if this was fact or fiction. Good luck, Tony Savery ----- Original Message ----- From: "Angela Kelly" <angkelly@aapt.net.au> To: <MORAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 16, 2005 8:59 AM Subject: [MORAY] Geddes > Anyone have a connection to John GEDDES who married Margaret HENDERSON in > Lossiemouth in 1885. Hi Angela Have you considered that John GEDDES may have been born illegitimately and that his birth is registered as John MORRISON? I checked the IGI and the only birth I could find to a Barbara MORRISON was on 21 Aug 1861 at Glasgow, Lanarkshire. It's a long shot, but it might be worth checking out. Hi everyone. I am trying to get additional information on the family of John Innes and Elspet Innes who were married on the 6 March 1800 in Inveravon. According to the IGI, it states that they had the following children: Isabella c: 13 Apr.1800, Alexander c: 13 Oct. 1801, Elizabeth c: 26 Oct. 1802, John c: 1 Jan.1805 and Charles c: 4 Aug.1807. Beatrice. I have also established through her death extract dated 11 Dec.1894 that Beatrice was also from that family. Based on her age at the time of her death, 89, she was born about 1805. She died in Knockandhu. Isabella. She died on the 16 June 1881 at the age of 80 in Knockandhu. Her death extract does confirm that Beatrice was her sister John. According to his death extract, he died on the 15 July 1863 at Sockach in the Parish of Aberlour at the age of 59. He was married to Ann Forbes. In all of the above cases, their parents were John Innes, crofter and Elspet Innes. Would anyone have any information on them. I believe that they were from Croftbain. From information that I have, I am trying to establish if either this John Innes or Elspet Innes were either brother or sister to me William Innes b: about 1778. As an afterthought, perhaps my friends at Aberloursearch might be able to help me in getting additional information on John who died 15 July 1863 in Aberlour. The informant indicated in his death extract was his nephew John Innes also residing in Aberlour. William in montreal
