Lately, I have been looking into the family of John Innes and Jean Gordon who lived at Chapel Christ in the Glen and perhaps moved to Blairfindy just across the river. The information that I have tells me that in the 1760's there was a terrible flood where the River Livet overflowed it's banks and partially destroyed Chapel Christ as well as washing away its cemetery. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who would know exactly when the floods occurred along the River Livet. William

Hello List, I am new to the list and would anyone have James DUNCAN b. Nov. 27, 1884/1885, Urquhart on their family tree? James had two brothers Alec ( Alexander? ) and John but nothing further on the brothers. I would be grateful for any information or help, even from the 1891 census. Thanks. Kind Regards, Lorraine McMillan in Canada
Dear Listers I am new to the list and am searching for King; Speymouth; 1850+; Gordon; Botriphnie (Banffshire?) 1859; Gordon; Keith; 1800+; Garrow; Botriphnie 1800+; Priest; New Spinie; 1800+; Peddie; Knockando (?) 1800. I am particularly interested in the murder of PC King at Nethy Bridge in 1898, who was born at Speymouth, Moray in 1852 to John King and Elizabeth Priest. Kind regards Jocelyn [email protected]
We are still searching for information re/ HECTOR CRUICKSHANK, born possibly 1740s, but do not know where or his parents. Wife is Janet McDonald, who is possibly the daughter of James MacDonald and Janet McBain Janet born Oct.1741. Hector & Janet had 4 children: James born March 1767; Peter, born April 1770 ( my ggggrandfather, who went to Nova Scotia about 1788-9,); Beatrice born March 1774;, Allan, born May 1775. All the children were born "Abernathy and Kincardine, Inverness". We have information on most of Peter's descendants, and would appreciate any additional "tid-bits" Peg Hopkins Peg ____________________________________________________________________________________ Never miss a thing. I would like to communicate with Ian Matheson but I do not have your email address. I noticed that you have a Mary Gordon in your Tree, who was born 1767. I have a Jean Gordon who married John Innes and their children were born in the 1760's at Chapel Christ which was in Glenlivet, Inveravon Banff. You can reply directly to me. William in Montreal

Nice hearing from you Cameron. You are correct in saying LDS, but that is only part of it. Hi Goldie. Isabella was buried with her husband, Her DE states the following: Isabella's death extract ( Death Isabella Innes 1875 ) shows that she was the widow of James Flemming, who by profession, was a teacher. She died on the 8 June 1875 at the School Terrace in Rothes at the age of 87. It is confirmed that her parents were John Innes and Isabella McBain. The informant appears to be her son George. I wondered if the death showed up on the Rothes film I saw, but it's not there. I only have to the late 1700's and only 3 pages. The Rothes film I saw had very little info on it. But I hit on something that may be of some use to you. From the old book An Account of the Famile of Innes. There are a few pages you might be interested in. I'll copy them on Friday for you. It's crom 1538 and deals with "Alexander Inneiss Sone and apperand air to Alexander Inneiss of that Ilk on that ane part and James innes sone and appeaand air to robert Inneiss of Rtohnakenze on that uth part To decyde and declair the poyntis debatabill and obscuir contenit in ane decret 24 day of November the yeir of God M V and xxxiii yeris......." Its two pages lond and all written like that.......Hells' bells, I had the wrong one......... Trying again......but it's the same "Alexander Innes son and apperand air to Alexander Innes of that ILK" and 2 pages long and this is the ending of it "In witness heirof baith the sadis parteis hes subscriuit this present contract with their handis day yeir and place forsaidis. Before thir witnesses Alexaner Peior of Pluscardin Maister Johne Innes persoun of Kirkmichael Patrick Doddois Maister Henry laudar Maister John Lethame and Thomas Mavane with vtheris diuers." It is "The contract betwix the laid of Invermerky and the Laid Innes for the landis of Ggistoun (1535). While I'm not so stupid as to tell you this John from Kirkmichael is related to your John, because who would know that?, I think there may be some relationship here. I have the Innes Family Genealogist coming from US for a visit at the end of the month. I'll ask her what her take is on this one. Meanwhile I'll copy this to you. The book is the old one written in 1698 by Duncan Forbes of Culloden, with some additions on theCadent Families of Innes. This is the only mention of Kirkmichael I find in the book. LIBINDX (Ref. No. NM049249) contains some fascinating information about Sylvester Williamson Findlater, as follows: He was born 15 Aug. 1853, Mortlach, son of a prominent local estate factor, James Findlater of Balvenie, Mortlach. He graduated with a medical degree from Aberdeen in 1884 and was appointed Inspector of the Poor in Mortlach in the same year. In January and February of 1893, he was accused and stood trial for the assault and killing of John Johnston Jackson Hay, manager of the Tininver and Richmond Lime Works in Dufftown. (According to his death register entry, Hay died at his residence, Errol Bank, Dufftown, of a punctured blood vessel, the result of a rib fracture). Findlater was found not guilty, and left for Canada some time before 1897, when he married Margaret Ann Grant in Calgary. He died in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada 20 September, 1919. Would anyone know what the fracas with Hay was about? Apparently, Findlater's accusation was reported in the /Northern Scot/, 28/01/1893, p. 5, and the trial was reported in the /Banffshire Advertiser/, 09/02/1893, page 7. His acquittal was noted in the /Northern Scot/, 11/02/1893, page 6. Unfortunately, I do not have access to these accounts. William in Alberta, Canada
