Author: gmuckart1 Surnames: Muckart Shea Caines Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.mor.general/11.726.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Annette, I am a blood relative of George Muckart, but I am not a descendant of his. My connection to George is one or two generations back from George himself. I don't have much on Catherine Shea. She died before George. All of the research I did on George and his family is on my old computer. It may take some time to ferret it all out. I can however tell you that George was a Jobbing Gardener, and that he died at 26 Batchen Street, in Elgin. George's death cert., gives his age as 74 when he died. From memory I think that Catherine died in the 1890's. I can put you in touch with some of George and Catherine's descendants. I met them when they came over to Scotland some years ago. They live in Ontario. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. My apologies re the spelling of Midlothian, just my lazyness in not checking my writing, no offence meant to my Scottish Kinfolk. Yes you are prob right, re the correct mailing list. The year by the way is 1848, she was living in Paisley, but most of her chn were born in North Lothian, and or Edinburgh, maybe she went there to family. She was expecting her 7th child in 1848, so seems to have gone to Edinburgh/St Cuthbert for the birth. The child was born in Edinburgh, but Agnes the Mother died of Consumption in St Cuthbert on the date mentioned above. Thanks anyway. She was married to Alexander Marshall, her maiden name was Gemmell/Gamel. Pearl M.

    2. Lesley, According to her death registration, Elspet Allan m.s. BARCLAY was buried at Grange churchyard in 1859. I would believe that her husband was also buried there. There seems to be no surviving memorial stone for this couple. -- Jo-Ann -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: "Lesley Moore" <lesleyandrobert@smartchat.net.au> > Hello, Could someone please do a lookup for a JOHN ALLAN who died between the Census of 1851 and 1861 in Keith. I have not managed, via their website, to discover what burial records exist, but you will get basic points of contact at: http://www.moray.gov.uk/moray_standard/page_39980.html I imagine you would have to email or write with your query - burial records are not often online or even computerised. If, on the other hand, you are seeking a record for John's death, then he may be recorded in either the pre-1855 OPR records (death records for Keith parish exist 1748-1854) or in the civil Registers of Death (from 1855). Both are available on Scotlandspeople. Gavin Bell

There are (or were) three counties, collectively known as "The Lothians", but these are West Lothian, Midlothian and East Lothian - I have never heard of a "North". In the 19th century, these three counties were often referred to after the English style (that is, taking the name of their principal town) as Linlithgowshire, Edinburghshire and Haddingtonshire. I have not so far found a map showing its boundaries, but St Cuthbert's parish is described in Lewis's "Topgraphical Dictionary of Scotland" (1846) as "... until recently subdivided into several ecclesiastical districts ... originally included the whole of the City and and the Burgh of Canongate ..." But by the 1890s it had been subdivided once more, into 16 separate sections. All of which means that it covered much of the centre of present-day Edinburgh. In such a situation (particularly as we go through the 19th century, with the opening of numerous large non-denominational burial grounds) it is likely that any family with a body to bury were spoiled for choice, with various burial grounds within easy reach. I would be inclined to put your question (including a date) to a List specialising in Edinburgh or MidlOthian (people from Glasgow may "loathe" the place, but there is not normally an "A" in the county name!). 3. Hello Peg I could find only 1 marriage between an Isabella/Isabel/Isobel Grant and a Thomson/Thompson registered anywhere in Scotland between 1900 and 1925. As follows: 1913 David Thomson to Isabella Grant in the district of St Machar, Aberdeen. But they were both aged 52. Isabella was a widow and previously married to a Mr Stuart. She was the daughter of John Grant, farmer, and Isabella Fenton. Is this your Isabella? 2. Peg Hopkins
    3. Wondering if anyone knows of the TOMPSON( unsure of spelling) who was married to Isabella GRANT in Elgin area prior to WW1, They had two young children, James & Agnes (Nessie). I assume he died in the war, as she left Scotland with the children, landed in Halifax , NS, Canada..day or 2 before "Halifax Explosion"(Dec.1917) They stayed in Pictou County with her brother William Grant(my grandfather),, and when war ended she settled in Montreal, remarried a man with last name of TYLER...and the children took on that name. I would love to know anything about them. I believe Jim Tyler worked for insurance company (Sun Life ) in Toronto?? Peg Hopkins

    3. I'm looking for a a very loose end. Elizabeth Williamson, (b. 1777-1778). m. Alexander Rhind 1804. Her parents could possibly be William Manson (1740) and Ann Fraser (1736) OR Andrew Williamson (1759) and Margaret Stout (1760). Possibly some of the Rhind descendants would know? I won't explode if I cannot find out, but I would be grateful for any help. Thanks! ________________________________
