    1. [MORANDOL] more about small grocery stores
    2. My memory may be similar as some, Did anyone retrieve the pop bottle caps at each little mom & pop store? Seems like their was one on each corner. Their was supposed to be a prize if you found the right cap Had to peel out the cork label. I never got a prize but i sure wore out my pockets packing them home. How bout the collecting red pokadot rappers that were on the fudgecicle & popcicle. (what a sticky mess.) That was laying around near grocery stores. Sent hundreds of them in with xxdollers for a prize. Mine was a camera. Piece of plastic junk. Did anyone collect deposit on bottles so you could go to movie or buy something at the movies. Or trade in empties to get, a bottle of pop.? Does any one remember the stores that kept pop in ice water? How bout the first machine you put money in to get a coke? Remember the soda jerk? your 1st Ice cream Sunday & first banana split. Was a special time in my life. New sights, sounds, tastes & smells. James M Bagby. Indep MO I wanta go home!!!! Wow, It sure is fun reminissing about those family ran stores in Moberly. In about 1967, I remember the one over by West Elementary and also Vans IGA. Every Friday night when Dad and Mom would go dancing they would give my sister and I a whole dollar to go to the little store just a jag from Collins street. For that dollar we came back with a full small bag of penny candy, I also got a cream filled long john, and a bottle of soda. Wow, what happened to our dollar.? And stay up running the "safe neighborhood till 1-2 in the morning and behaving, Ha. and get to bed before Dad and Mom got home from their date. Sure wish we had a few of those times today. 3. I didn't retrieve bottle caps, but I definitely collected soda bottles, sometimes close to the end of payday, those bottles helped buy a loaf of bread or a quart of milk. When my Mom could afford it, she would take us girls to the Rexall store on the main drag for a milkshake. I can still feel myself twirling on the stools. BTW, back in 1940, apparently there were no such things as DMV and my Mother bought her first drivers license in the Rexall Storel for a quarter.
