Ben, I can't answer your question on the Hubbard family, but as you know I'm interested in Sarah "Sallie" Alexander who married Joel Hubbard as she was a sister of my gg grandfather John Alexander. Joel Hubbard and Sallie Alexander were also great-grandparents of Omar Bradley. Sallie Alexander Hubbard and John Alexander were the children of James Alexander and Elizabeth Logan who were married in Garrard County, Kentucky in 1804 (Garrard County Marriage Bond 300A). Interestingly, the officiating minister was Charles Finnell who also migrated to Randolph County. James Alexander and his wife Elizabeth Logan are buried in the Hurt Cemetery (south of Mt. Airy) just a few feet from the grave of Charles Finnell! James Alexander was the son of Samuel Alexander who died in Mecklenburg County, NC in 1784 and his wife who I believe was Sarah Balch, half sister of Hezekiah Benjamin Balch, a Princeton-trained Presbyterian minister who founded Greenville College (now as I understand it a part of Tusculum College) in East Tennessee. Sarah Balch Alexander and Hezekiah Benjamin Balch were first cousins of Hezekiah James Balch, also a Princeton-trained Persbyterian minister, who was "chairman" of the Mecklenburg Convention, which drafted what some claim was one of the first "declarations of independence" from Great Britain in 1775. Elizabeth Logan was the daughter of Timothy Logan who according to one biographical sketch, "came from North Carolina in the early settlement of Kentucky, about 1778, was a great Indian fighter, and caused many a foe to bite the dust." According to Timothy Logan's pension, he served as an "Indian Spy" during the Revolutionary War. Timothy Logan was very closely associated with the Boone family (on sketch states he lived with Daniel Boone's family when a teenager in North Carolina) and, in fact, it is thought Timothy's first wife was a Boone. No documentary evidence has ever been found proving that Timothy Logan's first wife was a Boone (he had two other marriages -- to Sarah Alexander and to Sarah Smith in 1810)! Disputes regarding Timothy Logan's estate led to a chancery court proceeding in Garrard County, which documents his 12 children including Elizabeth Logan who married James Alexander. Since the List Administrator won't allow me to post information in one single message, I'm going to follow up with some additional information on the Alexanders. Thanks. David
