    3. Remember, the death certificate is only the information that the survivor had - may be in error, the decedent may have lied, or a mistake. We all have seen that in our own family. The closest to me is my grandfather's death certificate. It says he was born in SD. But 3 census records and 2 daughters birth certificates say Nebraska. I am taking Nebraska. It was his oldest daughter who was the informant, too. Many times it is like "where are you from?" "Kansas" and they will put Kansas down as the birthplace - but he moved there when he was 6. Or even 20. Thanks, Kathy. Actually I got the youngest child's death certificate today and it lists her mother as the second wife, Lucretia. This child, Joella, was living in the 1860 census household where the mother's name listed as "Mary." It may just be a census takers mistake, but I am hesitant to shrug it off entirely as the age and state of birth on that record also match the first wife, Mary, and not the second, Lucretia. The death record for the oldest son, Zephaniah, lists his mother as Mary Sweeney. I need to track down the rest of the children's if I can. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to MORANDOL-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
