Opps... Sorry, I looked at the dates incorrectly. Mary died first. ~Leslie~ ---- GARY & LESLIE KOHLER <aug67@cox.net> wrote: Hi Diane, Have you already tried searching for any of Mary & Joshua's children, to see if she might have re-married? That's how I found one of my lost widow relatives. Also, I have an Ancestry subscription, if you'd like me to look there. I am trying to find an obituary, death record or burial record for Mary Sweeney Wright, wife of Joshua Wright, who died between 1853 and 1870 in Randolph county, near Sturgeon. Her father was Daniel Sweeney who died in Boone county in 1851 and her brother was Archibald Sweeney, who also died in Boone county, in 1863. Joshua Wright, her husband, died May 24,1876 and is buried in Wright cemetery near Sturgeon, but it seems Mary is not there. Any info you find would be greatly appreciated.
Yes, it seems Mary died first as Joshua is with his second wife, Lucretia Chism, in the 1870 census. What is extremely weird is that there is a marriage record for Joshua and Lucretia in Randolph county 1853, but Mary is listed as living with Joshua in the 1860 census. That may be a mistake and the wife in that household may actually be Lucretia, but the age and location of birth is correct for Mary, not Lucretia. Neither wife is buried with Joshua in the Wright cemetery, according to the transcription, but there are other Chisms buried there, and at least two of Joshua's known children, Zephaniah, son of Joshua and Mary, and Cornelia Wright, b. abt. 1854. daughter of J. and L., according to her headstone.
Could you have two men of the name Joshua Wright? Cousins perhaps? My Shelton line repeats constantly that way. Just a thought. Good luck with your research.
