I can add that Loreta Lessly and her parents Oreon and Cassie appear in the 1930 census in Richmond, Howard Co. age 18. Joseph and Etheline Lay appear in Randolph Co in the 1930 census - once again with no children listed in the household. I'll query my uncle Jim to see what he remembers about this. The 1920 census (Randolph Co.) shows an Orron Lessley as head of household, wife is Cassie D., with one child, Loretta, age 8. So, maybe Loretta's surname was not Lay, and maybe the Lessly (or Lessley) surname is correct for her.
