    3. The message from the lady re Wm. Jennings Bryan appearing at Kirksville, and mentioning a Merrell or Murrell, got me thinking. The oldest issues of 'The Higbee News' mention a Merrill, I believe the spelling was, who practiced law in Higbee for a short while, before leaving for Macon or possibly Kirksville, and could be the man which she mentioned. Also mentioned more than once in The News is Congressman Romjue, who the editor referred to as 'Andy,' who began the practice of law in Higbee on graduation from MU, and who went on to Macon and election as Congressman from what I believe was then the First District. This is substaniated by an item in the 'Political Graveyard' website.

    2. Murrell was definitely the spelling in our family, but I do believe he was a lawyer. He had married Lora Patrick (parents buried at Sugar Creek). Unfortunately, I believe there was a divorce there. And Romjue is another connection. I graduated from H.S. at Macon with his grandson, James Romjue, who was either valedictorian or salutatorian--very smart.
