Yes, I knew Lyle Cubbage. I think it was more through the Higbee Masonic Lodge where I was active for several years. I think I remember when he received his 50 year pin. And I remember him being associated with one of the banks (my parents operated the Higbee Savings Bank l955-l979). I'm thinking that Clarence Cubbage was Pres. of the Yates Savings Bank for a time, and Lyle may have started there and wound up working in Higbee's Citizens Bank.....I don't think he was ever associated with the Savings Bank....I recall hearing there was some hard feelings re the Citizens Bank take over of the Yates bank. And I've always wondered why the Cubbages, etc., are buried in Higbee's city cemetery instead of Roanoke, etc. Didn't Lyle wind up in the state of LA?
Lyle Cubbage shows up in the 1930 census living with his brother, Clarence, in Randolph County. I have never heard about him living in Louisiana. He doesn't show in the Social Security Death Index, which makes me feel he died before 1950 (I think that when the SSDI started). Ancestry.com has a Louisiana death index for 1900-1949, and he doesn't show up there either, so maybe Louisiana is not where he moved after the bank failed. There was a little article in the 1927 newspaper: Higbee News: Thursday, 31 Mar 1927, Vol 40, No 47, Pg. 1 Col. 5--Pete Gruber and J. T. Randolph of this place and Lyle Cubbage and Roy Fray of Yates, members of Sinda Grotto band, Moberly, spent Wednesday in St. Louis with that organization, one of several bands to furnish music for a big ceremonial put on by the order in that city. I'd love to know what happened to him after 1930. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. -----Original Message----- From: Carey Bankhead [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, April 19, 2006 5:29 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [MoRandolph] Re: Cubbage folks Yes, I knew Lyle Cubbage.
