    1. RE: [MoRandolph] Preserving old cemeteries
    2. Hello Valerie: We, my mother and 3 brothers, boarded a train in Hoxie,Lawrence,Ar., in 1939. My father had driven out several months prior to our feparture as my mother was pregnant with the youngest child and couldn't travel. We rode the train to Orange,Orange,Ca., and got off at the old depot there. I retired from Orange County Marshal Dept., in 1993 and returned to Pocahontas,Randolph, Ar. Probably the best way to Yorba Cemetery would be; go north on the 57 to Orangethorpe, go east on Orangethorpe for several miles [ thru Atwood ] The Yorba cemetery is about 1/4 mile east of Yorba Linda Blvd.it is on the left side of road but, you can' t see it from Orangethorpe. I have Ethleen Blansett but I didn't have her father, I have her husband Joseph D. Lay and the marriage date but no other info. If you can fill in the missing info I would surely like to have it. 3. Joe Lay was a brother of George who was associated with the Citizens Bank of Higbee, dying very suddenly ca l929. His widow, Mary Hackward Lay, an English lady by birth, was our next door neighbor when I was a baby.

    3. Dear Norman - sorry for the delay in writing. Weekends are taken up with kid activities, etc... Loved hearing your story. My relatives lived in Orange about the same time you did. Actually just a few streets past the train depot on Pixley; they lived there for many years. The father of the house, Harold Bradley, worked for the local newspaper. We had other family in Orange, too.........Barbara and John Young, with their two daughters. It is funny that this is where I ended up! We have a dear friend who started as a Marshal in Orange County and was most likely there when you were. I see that you started and returned to Arkansas ("Ar."). What is your tie to Missouri? As for Ethleen.....she was married to my great grandmother's younger brother and I have several letters from Joe and Ethleen, as well as a few pictures. They never had any kids (or any that survived), but from what I have heard, they were wonderful people. If you are interested I can forward a picture, directly to your email, as the list doesn't accept attachments. I have that Ethleen Blansett with birthdate Jan 1, 1882 and death June 24, 1968. She married Joe Lay on May 17, 1908. Joe was born Jan 10, 1882 and died Feb 13, 1952. Ethleen's parents were Moses Blansett and Susan Hardin Dennis. I don't have any substantiated info on Moses and Susan, but someone on ancestry.com has Moses' birthdate as Jun 28, 1856 and death Aug 17, 1931. They have Susan's birthdate as Nov 28, 1861 and death Dec 3, 1917. I will have to look on my own to verify this. I did find Moses on the 1860 census as a 4 year old living in Chariton, Schuyler, Missouri. They household members were as follows: William Blansett 41 years Farmer Elvira 35 James 17 Nancy 15 John 13 Martha 11 Emily 9 George 7 Moses 4 Mary 1 On the 1870 census, father William is listed as a Preacher and Emily, age 9, is now listed as "Missouri", age 19. The last name for the household is spelled "Blancet". On the 1880 census, father William is again listed as a Farmer. Living in the house are wife Elvira, Moses (age 24), and Mary (age 21). Last name spelled Blanset. On the 1920 census, William is living by himself as a widower. He is 63 years old. On the 1900 census, Moses is the head of his household with wife Susan H. They have two daughters, Ethleen age 12, and Carrie age 9.
