    3. As a child some 60 years ago, I used to visit the farm of Ruth Burton, b. 17 Oct 1903, who on 15 Jun 1921 m. William Finley Roberts, b. 7 May 1895 Moberly, d. 27 Dec 1986 Moberly. As far as I know she is still with us, as she is not in SSDI death records last time I looked. I wish that I knew how to contact her. Finley was blind and a cousin to my father through the Terrills, and they were close. I don't have her Burton line back. I also have: Thomas Waller Burton m. Matilda A. Terrill, b. 1 Oct 1846 Randolph Co., dtr. of the Rev. Jessie W. Terrill and Abigail Walton. William Henry Burton, b. 20 Dec 1848 Randolph Co., d. 7 Oct 1913 Randolph Co., m. Susan Coleman Christian, b. 16 Mar 1854, d. 18 Oct 1939 Randolph Co. Susan was the dtr. of William Sutton Christian and Mary Elizabeth Terrill. Those were on my Terrill page below. On my Wayland page, I have: May Burton (1780-1859) who m. Nancy Woodfolk (1786-1836) and they had a child, Burilla Burton, b. abt 1809 KY, who on 20 Jun 1828 in Chariton Co., MO m. Thomas J. Gorham, b. abt 1805 TN. I have 6 children for them and this note under Thomas: ==================== "A Family Called Fort" says that he married second time, but wife not given. The following was from <Falcor2000@aol.com> in 8/99: "Thought I would chime in with what I have on this family. In my database I have a Thomas J. GORHAM b. abt 1805 in TN. Parents unknown. He married Burilla Burton on Jun 20, 1828 in Chariton Co., MO. Burrilla was the daughter of May Burton (1780-1859) and Nancy Woodfolk (1786-1836). Both Thomas and Burilla appear in the 1850 census for Randolph Co., MO in the household of May Burton on page 259 B, Prairie Township. Thomas' age is listed as 45, occupation farmer, real estate value $2,500, birthplace TN. Burilla is age 41 born in Kentucky. Their presumed children living in the household are Thomas GORHAM age 20 born in MO, Tolman GORHAM age 17, born in MO, and Missouri I. GORHAM age 13, born in MO. Carole" =========================== Archibald Burton, b. 25 Feb 1782, d. 25 Mar 1868. He m. on 21 Mar 1810 in Lincoln Co., KY, Rosemon Pigg, b. 4 Mar 1793 Lincoln Co., d. Oct 1843 Lincoln Co, the dtr. of my ancestor William Pigg. I have no children for Archibald, but I have 12 children with lines down on William Pigg. Ambrose Waller Burton, b. 1 Feb 1812 KY, d. 1847, m. Martha Emily Fort, b. 8 Nov 1818 TN, d. abt 1840. The below was publicly posted 8/99: ======================== Burton, May** -- Pvt., Co. F 3rd MO Infantry. Enlisted at the age of 17 on 7 Dec 1861 in St. Clair Co., MO by Col. R.S. Bevier. He was with the MSG at Drywook and Lexington and served with the MO Brigade from Elkhorn, where he was first wounded to Cornith, MS. May was in the hospital at Magnolia, MS from Feb 1863 until Aug 1863 when he returned to duty. He was killed in action on Kennesaw Mountain, GA 27 Jun 1864 and is buried in Marietta, GA. Ref: CSR Collecting information on the Burton family is something of a habit with me. I believe that I may have found the above named May Burton. I recently got a copy of a page of the 1850 census for Randolph Co., MO - specifcially page 274. On the page is listed the family of "A.W. Burton" - or Ambrose Waller Burton (age 39 in the census). This Ambrose Burton was the son of May Burton and Nancy Woodfoldk. Listed in the household with Ambrose is his wife Martha Emily Fort age 32) and their children William (12), Martha (10), Frances (8), May (6 and a male), John (3) and Burilla (1 month). Eleven years after this census the child May would have been the same age as the May Burton who enlisted in the army. There are a number of other May Burton's in my database but none of them are close enough in age to be a match. Just thought you might find this interesting.
