What little information on Joseph Hopper I have is from a Lulu Mae Keathly with whom I was in contact in the 70s. She was the great granddaughter of Joseph. Per her information: Joseph Hopper was a French-Canadian who moved to Boone Co AR about 1861 and died there in late 1862 (I saw a message that updates that) from the war. The bride index for Howard Co MO marriages gives that he married Elvira Mobley (I have more on her and antecedents) 2 Oct 1850; the groom index says 7 Oct 1850. They had a daughter Frances (older) and a son Joseph Thomas Hopper born Jul 1863. Elvira married someone surnamed Bass after 1863. Son Joseph Thomas Hopper left home age 9 because of his stepfather. He married Cora Belle Cline 5 Jan 1886 and died 15 Feb 1965. Again more on the descendants. I have not been able to date to find Joseph Hopper on the census, so he may have mobbed to AR before the above date. To correct slightly, Elvira's father was John H not A Mobley/Moberly (apparently the family early on often used it interchangeably) and Ann Enyart. John H was born 25 Nov 1797 KY son of Samuel Moberly and Ann Tudor and died 2 Oct 1867 Howard Co MO, buried in the New Hope Cemetery. Ann Enyart was born 10 Jun 1806 KY, died 28 Aug 1864 Howard Co. Children as I have it: Enyart b 24 Apr 1824, died 14 Jun 1886 Howard Co; md Martha Burnam 29 Oct 1846 Howard Co; 14 children Rachel b ca 1825, md John Perkins ca 1842, later married his brother Joel T Perkins; 10 children altogether but not sure which are whose Elizabeth Enyart my direct line, born 3 Jan 1828 Howard Co, died 8 May 1895 Howard Co, md 8 Jun 1842 James Dougherty; 12 children Permilia b 13 Aug 1831 MO, also my direct, died 9 Jun 1899 Howard Co, md 3 May 1846 George Washington Dougherty, brother of above James; 13 children. John Quincy b 22 Apr 1833 MO, died 14 Mar 1903 Howard Co, md Mary Elizabeth Reed 24 Feb 1854; 13 children Elvira b 1839 Howard Co, md 2 or 7 Oct 1850 Howard Co Joseph Hopper, md sometime, someplace, somebody Bass; 2 known children Squire b ca 1840 MO; MAY be the Squire Mobley who married Narcissa Todd 26 Jul 1864, but don't know. No further info on him. And of course got lots more on these families. The Enyarts came from KY, before that Surry/Rowan Co NC, before that Staten Island NY; the immigrant ancestor was Carel Enjoert b ca 1626 Flanders and came here - well, I have that info somewhere, but I think it was 1664; seems to me they were the last ones to arrive before NY became English; I have two very different Dutch lines (oddly enough, both members of the same church in Staten Island in the 1600s) and forget which one that was. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, May 22, 2006 9:47 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MoRandolph] Re: Hopper - Cline According to my Family Records, Joseph HOPPER Sr. came from Canada to AR. Joseph Sr. m. Elvira MOBERLY 2 Oct 1851, some notes say Howard Co. Mo, but Joseph Thomas was b. 12 Jul 1863 Boone Co. AR so I would think they were m. in AR. Elvira MOBERLY was d/o John A. MOBERLY/Ann ENYART. Her siblings were : John, Enyart, Squire, Elizabeth, & Rachel. Howard Fitzpatrick ==== MORANDOL Mailing List ==== Questions for the List Administrator?
