James - We've got most of the Moberly year books at the Randolph County Historical Society. I'm sure she will be pictured in some. I always heard her called Narlee. This could very well be a great lead. I am doubtful that the Mary you spoke of was mine as the Patton's in my line were actually born into slavery and carried the "Patton" name. According to marriage records Mary was actually a Pitts who married James Patton on Oct 1, 1865 and there were 8 children shown connected to them at this time. So I am trying to locate how they were connected to the Patton and Pitt's in this area and looking for any records that might show slave holdings, etc. Thanks again. Patton in my tree, born abt 1839. All I know is she is present in the census records through the 1860 census, at which point I assume she married, because she is not buried with the rest of the family. Here is an address to a website that has really helped my research: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~morandol/ Check out Larry Sumpter's Randolph County Death records, he has recorded a lot of tombstone information which has helped me in tracking some of the women in my family and there a few Mary Patton's listed. I can tell you that there seem to be 2-3 initial Patton Family's. There is a larger family (John, Nathanial, Matthew...) that are all related and I think from NC, but I'm not 100%. They're not my family and they owned a lot of land and are quite traceable using the afore mentioned website and census records. My family owned a small pig farm, on the edge of Huntsville, that was in our family up to about 25 years ago when it was sold. They arrived about the same time as the other Patton's, but are from Tenn or VA. This Mary J. seems to be about the right age. If it is your Mary, her father is Robert M. Patton, and her mother is Cynthia A. Baker. Cynthia (Baker) Patton is traceable through at least 5 Randolph, Co. censuses. If this is the correct Patton family let me know and I can send you more information. Best of luck, Melissa Patton Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
