Hi Carole, You are correct, in that William Washington Buckler's parents were Martin Green and Elizabeth (Lewis) Buckler. I too, have the following children for John L. Lewis and Patience Davis: Cynthia Ann b 1807; Elizabeth b 1807; Nathaniel G. b 1810; Joseph b 1818; Hester Ann b 1819;, and John F. b 1821-d. 1875. I THINK I got this info from you, but didn't write down the actual source. On Thu, Aug 14, 2008 at 11:17 AM, <Falcor2000@aol.com> wrote: > Wilma - Thanks so much for the information. Wilma - Thanks so much for the information. I didn't have some of the dates or people you listed. As it turns out I did have Maggie in my database but had failed to include some information on her - like her marriage to Oliver WHITE. I've spent a lot of time looking thru the Missouri Death Certificates online but hadn't gotten over to this line yet. I do like to keep track of some of the BUCKLER lines as they sometimes married members of the LEWIS and/or BRADLEY families over several generations. I think Maggie's father, William Washington BUCKLER, is the son of Martin Green BUCKLER and Elizabeth LEWIS. I believe Elizabeth was the sister of my ggg grandmother, Hester Ann LEWIS PATE. Below is a tidbit I got from one of the transcriptions Kathy has posted from The Higbee News. 6 Apr 1893--Married, in Clark, on the 5th, at the residence of and by Eld. J. F. Roberts, Mr. Oliver White, of Randolph county, and Miss Maggie Buckler, of Boone county. Carole Brace In a message dated 8/13/2008 12:36:59 A.M. Cecil, Woodland Hospital and McCormick Osteopathic were two private hospitals in Moberly. The Wabash Railroad also had a hospital in Moberly. I'm thinking there may have been 4 hospitals at one time in Moberly, but I can only recall 3. The town is still about the same size as when I was a kid, and now they only have one hospital (Moberly Regional). Initially, I had Searcy's wife as Tessie White, however, Lillian Cleeton's notes said that her middle name was Nichols. You are right about her parentage. I also have a note from Lillian stating that she also had a brother named "Warnie", which I assume to have been William Warner. Charlie Gillispie said that Searcy's second wife was Virginia Edwards. His surviving spouse was identified as Virginia, but I still haven't found a wedding license or another supportive documentation to enter it into my FTM. Ben, It's great hearing from you, and I'm glad to hear you are cancer-free. It sounds like you've had a very difficult summer. I've had close family members with cancer, so understand the scare you went through! I have more documentation on the Alexanders & Hubbards including that Chancery case from Garrard County, KY. Hopefully, I will have more time to transcribe this information (the chancery is fairly voluminous). However, I thought I would share the following deed from Mecklenburg County, which is interesting as it involves Samuel Alexander (father of James Alexander who died in Randolph Co., MO) and John Bertrand Dysart (father of James Dysart who later lived in Randolph Co., MO): "Genealogical Deed Abstracts, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, Books 10-14" by Herman W. Ferguson Mecklenburg County Deed Book #11 - 409, p 137. 11 Oct 1781. John Dysart of Burke, heir at law of James Dysart, decd, and Margaret (M) Dysart of Mecklenburg to Samuel Alexander, for 60 Pounds hard money of NC, 167 A in the Welch Tract on the south side of Rocky R adj the Barony Line and Thomas Wallace. Wit: Thomas Nickel and James Patton. Prvd in Oct 1782 Ct by oath of Thomas Nickel. Sam Martin CC. After Samuel Alexander died in 1784, his widow Sarah Alexander sold the land in 1788 per the following: "Genealogical Deed Abstracts, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, Books 10-14"by Herman W. Ferguson Mecklenburg County Deed Book #13 - 1459, p. 595. 14 Aug 1788. Sarah (X) Alexander, relict of Samuel Alexander, decd, to Dennis Copeland, for 45 pounds, 167 A in the Welch tract on the south side of Rocky R adj the Barony line and Thomas Wallace. Wit: Oliver Harris and John Lewes. Prvd in Jan 1789 Ct by oath of Oliver Harris. Jno. Rogers, clk. Pro. Tem. In 1789, Sarah Alexander appears in taxlists in Madison Co., KY (in the section that later became Garrard Co., KY). It should be noted that John B. Dysart also lived in Garrard Co., KY for short period of time. Additionally, one Sarah Alexander is named as daughter in the Mecklenburg Co., NC will of John Balch whose estate papers mention a move to Kentucky and then back to Mecklenburg Co., NC. It looks like one of John Balch's sons may have stayed in Kentucky, which may explain why Sarah Alexander stayed as well. Take care Ben. At the age of 22 she was married to Neptune Lynch, Sr., and remained in the same county until 1862, at which time with her husband and family crossed the plains to Boise City, Idaho, where they remained for four years and came to Montana, going to Helena. In the spring of 1870 the settled at Plains, and has resided here ever since. Mrs. Lynch was one of the pioneers in the full sense of the word, having been born in Kentucky when it was a wilderness, moved to Missouri with the first white settlers of that state and thence coming to the Rocky mountain regions and experiencing the hardships incident upon the building up of a new country. She was a lineal descendant of Daniel Boone and inherited the brave heart and noble character of her antecedents.
Ben, I can't answer your question on the Hubbard family, but as you know I'm interested in Sarah "Sallie" Alexander who married Joel Hubbard as she was a sister of my gg grandfather John Alexander. Joel Hubbard and Sallie Alexander were also great-grandparents of Omar Bradley. Sallie Alexander Hubbard and John Alexander were the children of James Alexander and Elizabeth Logan who were married in Garrard County, Kentucky in 1804 (Garrard County Marriage Bond 300A). Interestingly, the officiating minister was Charles Finnell who also migrated to Randolph County. James Alexander and his wife Elizabeth Logan are buried in the Hurt Cemetery (south of Mt. Airy) just a few feet from the grave of Charles Finnell! James Alexander was the son of Samuel Alexander who died in Mecklenburg County, NC in 1784 and his wife who I believe was Sarah Balch, half sister of Hezekiah Benjamin Balch, a Princeton-trained Presbyterian minister who founded Greenville College (now as I understand it a part of Tusculum College) in East Tennessee. Sarah Balch Alexander and Hezekiah Benjamin Balch were first cousins of Hezekiah James Balch, also a Princeton-trained Persbyterian minister, who was "chairman" of the Mecklenburg Convention, which drafted what some claim was one of the first "declarations of independence" from Great Britain in 1775. Elizabeth Logan was the daughter of Timothy Logan who according to one biographical sketch, "came from North Carolina in the early settlement of Kentucky, about 1778, was a great Indian fighter, and caused many a foe to bite the dust." According to Timothy Logan's pension, he served as an "Indian Spy" during the Revolutionary War. Timothy Logan was very closely associated with the Boone family (on sketch states he lived with Daniel Boone's family when a teenager in North Carolina) and, in fact, it is thought Timothy's first wife was a Boone. No documentary evidence has ever been found proving that Timothy Logan's first wife was a Boone (he had two other marriages -- to Sarah Alexander and to Sarah Smith in 1810)! Disputes regarding Timothy Logan's estate led to a chancery court proceeding in Garrard County, which documents his 12 children including Elizabeth Logan who married James Alexander. Since the List Administrator won't allow me to post information in one single message, I'm going to follow up with some additional information on the Alexanders. Thanks. David

While the article doesn't give the birth date for the child, it does state he was the adopted baby. Here's the article in it's entirety. It states the child was about 5 months at the time of it's death. 31 Oct 1891--Died, in Higbee, on the 27th, of diphtheria, little Raymond, the adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Herron, aged about five months. This is the child that was left on the door-steps of W. T. Botts last June. The unnatural parents were traced to Central Illinois where they had taken their places in society with as much grace and dignity as though they had committed no crime. The laws of Missouri make it a penitentiary offense of parents to abandon their offspring, and this heartless couple should be returned to Missouri and do the State five years of service, so confining them that they would have no opportunity to corrupt the morals of the other convicts.
