John I made a mistake in the posting of this on the web site that has been overlooked until now. It should read as follows: Burton, Ambrose W. -- Will; wife Martha E.; children; p. 23 Jun 1851 Burton, Ann -- 14 Dec 1785-15 Jun 1852, moved from Oldham Co., KY 1840; Heirs: James A. & John G. & William W. & George G. & Richard H. & Francis S. Burton, James M. Wright a minor, Mildred M. Brown, heirs & children; signed William W. & F.S. Burton; p. 9 Sep 1852; w\o William, children: (1) Frances A. (Wight) = Oakland Cem I couldn't make out an exact dod from the above, but it was apparently after 1850. I didn't find his wife Martha at that site. Maybe they are both buried in Oakland Cem. and they can be found there. Are the names in that cemetery online? But it complicates the issue further. It looks like the same couple, but they show different children from those on the census. Ann Burton is the (w\o) wife of William Burton; Ambrose W. Burton will was probated 23 June 1859, it is unknown to me when he died or in which cemetery he is buried at, his wife was Martha E. No the Oakland Cemetery is not online. Larry Wm Sumpter
Gene There is no Mahan Funeral Home in Randolph county today. Larry Wm Sumpter Is the Mahan Funeral Home still around? If so would they have records of services held there? Gene Box
Relating to my post on Burton, Ambrose found on the Randolph Co. web site. I just found the url that gives explanation for the codes and it is: http://www.yggdrasill.net/mgen/sumpter.html Many thanks to Larry Sumpter for doing all of that hard work for us. John Wayland
Thanks for pointing that out for me, Kathy. Thanks also for Carole's excellent information...I should have paid better attention. I looked on the Randolph Co. site at: http://www.yggdrasill.net/mgen/bdeath.htm and found this, which is difficult for me to make out: Burton, Ambrose W. -- Will; wife Martha E.; children; p. 23 Jun 1851 Burton, Ann -- Heirs: James A. & John G. & William W. & George G. & Richard H. & Francis S. Burton, James M. Wright a minor, Mildred M. Brown, heirs & children; signed William W. & F.S. Burton; p. 9 Sep 1852; w\o William, mother of Frances A. Wight, 14 Dec 1785-15 Jun 1852, moved from Oldham Co., KY 1840 = Oakland Cem I couldn't make out an exact dod from the above, but it was apparently after 1850. I didn't find his wife Martha at that site. Maybe they are both buried in Oakland Cem. and they can be found there. Are the names in that cemetery online? But it complicates the issue further. It looks like the same couple, but they show different children from those on the census. The 1850 census for Randolph Co., MO - specifically page 274. On the page is listed the family of "A.W. Burton" wife Martha ( age 32) and their children William (12), Martha (10), Frances (8), May (6 and a male), John (3) and Burilla (1 month). Maybe Carole can help us out. Carole, I tried to send you an email to ask if I could post your references, but apparently I had an old email address as it bounced back. Thanks for the posts, Linda. I had a match for the Elizabeth Page, dtr. of John Page and Mary Collins. I didn't have the first name for Elizabeth's husband, John Warmouth, nor their marriage date. Their son, George Washington Warmouth, b. 22 Dec 1811 Madison Co., KY, d. 16 Jan 1886 Halsey, Linn Co., Oregon, on 9 Dec 1834 in Chariton Co., MO, m. Sophia R. Runyon, b. 29 May 1813 KY, d. 23 Mar 1891 Halsey. In the notes under this couple on my Wayland gen. page on my main site below, I have a lot of information on current descendants and researchers. Sophia was the dtr. of Isaac Runyon and Sarah Winn. Two of her sisters, Josephine and Lavinia, married the same man, Eli Wayland. Eli and Lavinia are my g-g-grandparents. I have a photo of Josephine also on my site below. John Wayland http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~wayland/

As a child some 60 years ago, I used to visit the farm of Ruth Burton, b. 17 Oct 1903, who on 15 Jun 1921 m. William Finley Roberts, b. 7 May 1895 Moberly, d. 27 Dec 1986 Moberly. As far as I know she is still with us, as she is not in SSDI death records last time I looked. I wish that I knew how to contact her. Finley was blind and a cousin to my father through the Terrills, and they were close. I don't have her Burton line back. I also have: Thomas Waller Burton m. Matilda A. Terrill, b. 1 Oct 1846 Randolph Co., dtr. of the Rev. Jessie W. Terrill and Abigail Walton. William Henry Burton, b. 20 Dec 1848 Randolph Co., d. 7 Oct 1913 Randolph Co., m. On my Wayland page, I have: May Burton (1780-1859) who m. Nancy Woodfolk (1786-1836) and they had a child, Burilla Burton, b. abt 1809 KY, who on 20 Jun 1828 in Chariton Co., MO m. Thomas J. Hi Annabelle, I've been meaning to post you for awhile, concerning your Burton, Collins lines. Are they by any chance from Orange county, VA originally? I ask, because I have seen the name Burton in the county, and have a will for May Burton (not that common a name) from there as well. Many of the names in Howard county can be traced back to Orange county, VA. They moved from there to Mercer county, KY and finally to Howard and Randolph counties, MO. Among them are Atkins, Page, Hoard, Burris, Brockman, Collins, Burton, and many, many others. I don't know how many of these families are related, or whether they just traveled together. Below is the will for May Burton. From "Will Abstracts of Orange County, Virginia (1821-1838) Orange county Will Book 7". by Ruth and Sam Sparacio. Original Will Book 7, pgs 143-147. Will of MAY BURTON....give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Sarah Burton, one third of my whole estate which I have not conveyed by deed either to my son, Benjamin Burton, or my son in law, Alesander Bradford..I have given to each of my married daughters, except Fanny Buckner, a young negro woman at the time of their marriage..I have furnished my said daughter, Fanny Buckner, a plantation to live on..land to be managed by executors for the benefit and maintenance of Baldwin M. Buckner, his wife and children...father of Baldwin M. Buckner, Mordecai Buckner, dec'd daughters, Judith Webb, Sarah Payne and Mary Maria Eddins..Benjamin B. Blakey in consequence of his infirmity shall have an equal proportion with his brothers and sisters..and their descendants of the estate of the said Judith to be divided at her death..and besides there shall be taken out of the part coming to his mother, Judith Webb..I give to my daughter, Lucy Collins..all my interest in a tract of land lying in Madison county, whereon James Collins, deceased, formerly lived and of which he died seized..and one other tract in Madison County whereon Allen Raines lived and of which he died seized..remainder in what shall be allotted my wife, Sarah Burton, shall be equally divided between my daughters, Fanny Buckner, Judith Webb, Sarah Payne, Margarette Burton, Martha Craig and Mary Maria Eddins..Hannah Bradford (is listed among another group of children of whom Benjamin is the only son)..appoint my son, Benjamin burton, and my son in law, Alexander Bradford, and my son in law, James Craig, my executors..this first day of November 1827..Signed..May Burton, In the presence of Thomas S. Thornton, Alexander O. Bradford, John M. Blakey, John White, William Walker. In a codicil he gives household furniture to wife. Codicil made 8th July 1828 with same witnesses. At a court held...24th August 1829..Benjamin burton and Alexander Bradford..with Tandy Collins, Michael L. Eheart, Thomas Collins and Minor Rucker, their securities..bond in the penalty of twenty five thousand dollars.
