Greetings from a new lister. I am interested in finding out more about my great-grandparents, NANCY LOUISA BUNNELL, b. 24 Oct. 1861 [place unknown], d. 8 April 1891, and WILLIAM ZACHARIAH FARRIS, b. 16 Dec. 1853, Schuyler Co., MO, d. 2 Jan. 1928. Both are buried at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Randolph County. Can someone tell me what town this cemetery might be in or near? Unfortunately, my records are very spotty. This couple had five daughters before Nancy died at age 29. William eventually remarried and had a son. Nancy's youngest daughter was my grandmother, MARY LOUIS FARRIS, b. 23 Mar.1890; she married THOMAS LAFAYETTE WARFORD; he was born 3 August 1888 in Higbee. Their daughter, MARY ELEANOR WARFORD, is my mother and I hope to honor her on her 80th birthday this coming summer with some of her family history. I would love to get some hints on the best way[s] to research this family, and to hear from anyone connected with these families. Although I am not new to genealogy, all of my prior research has been on my father's families in SC and AL in the 18th and 17th centuries, so I am new to both research in MO and research as recent as the 19th century. Thank you, Elizabeth DuBois Russo [Now in Simsbury, CT, but born and raised in Marshall, MO]
Found this on another list. Thought someone on the Randolph Co. list would be interested!!! Any questions, ask John Wayland. But, it is unlikely from the list of teachers who graduated the school marked with a *, as all were "Miss" on a separate list in the annual: John Gray Merideth (principal) Ara Appling Evelyn Beard * Anna Burns W.T. Incidentally, this annual has beautiful cartoon art work that was by the "art editor" John J. West. It looks professional, and he looks young enough to be a student. But, I could not find him in the classes.
Hi List: About a year ago, I attempted to share family data with others interested in the Overstreet surname, by printing and distributing "Overstreets in Virginia - 300 Years of Bedford County". The response was more active than anticipated. About six thousand family members in the data base then has grown - - grown now to over ten thousand. And many of the genealogical facts have been expanded and/or corrected, I prefer to call it enriched. This has only occurred because so many of you have shared with me your efforts and knowledge. Now I am willing to share with interested folks a sequel. One of the Bedford family lines has increased the reported names over three fold, along with significantly enriching detail. This family, the descendants of Thomas 'the hatter' Overstreet & Judith Walker is the subject of the current new offering. This is an expansion to a portion of the Bedford workbook and I am delighted to share it before the end of this year. This workbook of over one hundred pages presents the family in the Register format and the Outline format. The plastic comb binding and every name index will be features you will find helpful for many years. Please be forewarned! This data base is only able to grow and help others in response to the information that everyone shares. You will be expected to let me, or our friends at Rootsweb, know what corrections are needed and the additions you know about and would like added into the data base. Email orders are accepted and only email orders will be acknowledged. A $5 prepublication discount will be allowed for all orders received before copy goes 'to the printer', about December 10th. Please mark prepublication discount on Miscellaneous line. Orders will be shipped Priority Mail after your check has been received, thank you. I expect the orders to be ready for shipment on 15th of December. Arlene - St Mary's Cemetery has been recorded by the Randolph County Historical Society and is available there. The society does research for $10 - address 223 N. Clark, Moberly, MO 65270. No official death records except at the State level from 1910 on. There could be records at the St Pius Catholic Church in Moberly, since St Mary's is catholic. Cecy
I found a Joseph and Mary E. Peters in the Death Index buried at St. Mary's. I think they may be my ggg-grandparents. Are there any records existing for this cemetery. Also, did Randolph County keep official Death Certificates for 1917? Would like to hear from anyone else researching the Peters name. My gg-grandfather was Thomas Eugene Peters 1874-1924 (born and died in Moberly). I know his parents names were Joseph and Mary E. (REYNOLDS) Peters. He married Bessie Lee BLAKE about 1897 in or near Moberly. Thank you, Arlene in Denver
Hi folks, Larry Sumpter's database has been updated to include the letter S. Please hit refresh/reload if you have visited the site recently: http://www.yggdrasill.net/mgen/sumpter.html Also new this weekend is a history of Silver Creek Township from the History of Randolph and Macon Counties - 1884. Includes interesting information on the area and lists old settlers. http://www.rootsweb.com/~morandol/silvercreek.htm -- Nancy
The response to my effort to print and distribute "Overstreets in Virginia - 300 Years of Bedford County" in 1999 has been met with some success and recently several questions about when "is the update workbook going to be available?" The Thomas 'the hatter' Overstreet & Judith Walker family has had more information exchanged than any of the other Bedford family lines. The Bedford data base has grown from 6,000 to over 10,000 names. This growth has only happened because of so many wonderful and helpful folks like you. With this expression of interest, I am making available a workbook with Thomas 'the hatter' Overstreet and Judith Walker as the eldest ancestor. Distribution will began by the early part of December 2000, so orders will be shipped in time for holiday sharing with others. Please contact me if you might have any interest in considering acquiring this useful resource of Overstreet family history. A prepublication discount will be allowed for all orders placed before copy goes 'to the printer', about December 4th. Email orders are accepted and all email orders will be acknowledged. Orders will be shipped Priority Mail after your check has been received, thank you. I expect the orders to be ready for shipment on the 12th of December. Please be fore warned! This data base is only able to grow and help others in response to the information that everyone shares. You will be expected to let me, or our friends at Rootsweb, know what corrections are needed and the additions you know about and would like included into the data base. Just to add to the confusion, I believe there is one other Salem Cemetary in Randolph County. I have always heard it referred to as Salem Cemetary (I grew up about 2 miles from the cemetary), though it may have an "official" name that is different . It is 5-6 miles east of Moberly on Rt. EE and lies in South Sugar Creek Township. It is about 1/2 mile from where Rt. EE ends at a gravel road running north/south. On the north side of EE is the Salem School that is now privately owned (for years a family lived there) and the cemetary is on the south side of EE. At one time I believe there was a church there but I think it was a Baptist Church. My father helped maintain the cemetary under the direction of a small, local board. I don't know who is now responsible for the maintenance. I think, though, the cemetary Mary is looking for is likely the one Paul Franklin wrote about. Yes there is a Salem Cemetary located just 3-4 miles SE of Woodville(Middlefork twp, Macon co) in Randolph county. It does get confusing. I was taken there years ago by a distant relative. I think the church may be at the intersection of J Highway and Y (West of Duncan's Bridge east of Levicks Mill and south of Woodville). We spent several hours there photographing tombstones of my ancestors. If you have any Jones, Sumpter, and Switzers in your tree, let know. My first searchs on my family brought me to several books by Elizabeth P. Ellesbury, which have a least gave me a place to start. Some of these books may be on line at wither Genealogy.com or Ancestery.com however both of them charge a subscription. Gayle
Hello, I am looking for information on the following two people: Elizabeth (Betsy) McKinsey. She died on April 11, 1896 in Randolph County, Missouri. She was married to George Fisk and they supposedly had many children but I can't find any trace of them. John G. Owen. He was living in Moberly in 1910 next to the Harrison family. I believe he lost a foot in a railyard accident. I am looking for obituaries, wills, or any other type of information that might help me locate their descendants. Thank you very much. Matt McKinsey
Hi Mary: There is a Mt. Salem Cemetery and Church located in Randolph County southwest of Moberly, Mo. Take County highway "A" from U.S. 63 south toward Higbee and exit to the right at highway "BB" for about 4 miles. The church is near the junction of BB and D which were both just country gravel roads the last time I was there. There could also be a Salem church and cemetery at a location north of Moberly near the Macon County Line. The Randolph County Historical Society located on N. Clark Street in Moberly should be able to give you this information. Lou Myers
In trying to do a complete and more accurate (through) job of learning about the Thomas 'the hatter' Overstreet descendants, I need your help. I would like to learn about, and hear from, relatives of Archibald Benjamin Overstreet and his wife Melinda Daniel. There is plenty of information indicating this family, and close relatives, lived in Randolph County, Missouri for several years or decades. Any contact, and all information, will be greatly appreciated and highly respected. In exchange for new information I am happy to share with others, data that I may have available.
