    3. This line can get very confusing as there are more than one May M. Burton and they carried the names down the lines. May M. Burton and Nancy Woolfolk had the following children, Joseph W., Burilla, Irene, Ambrose W., William Woolfolk, May Medley, Edna, and John Care. Joseph W. and May Medley both had and Irene listed in the 1860 Census. In Joseph household age 11, in May Medley, age 10. Both could have had daughters named after their sister or as you state could have both listed Irene. Joseph W. is my line. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, March 27, 2006 10:13 PM Subject: Re: [MoRandolph] Irene Burton questions & May Medley Burton Obituary >I think you might be onto something here. 1. Re: [MoRandolph] Irene Burton questions & May Medley Burton Obituary
    2. I think you might be onto something here. I'd never taken the time to connect this before even though I have this thing for figuring out the Burton family. I have May Medley Burton's brother, Joseph Wisdom Burton, as being the father of a daughter named Irene Burton born 18 Mar 1850. This Irene does appear listed in her father's household in the 1850 and 1860 census records. I know that an Irene Burton also shows up in the 1860 census record in May Medley's household but it wouldn't be the first time someone got listed twice. Below is a obit for Joseph Wisdom's daughter that seems to explain why Irene was showing up in her uncle's household and confirm your theory that May Medley didn't have a daughter named Irene. 9 Oct 1908--MISS IRENE BURTON DEAD--The many Higbee friends and acquaintances of Miss Irene Burton were pained to learn of her death which occurred at the home of her uncle, Judge May M. It is very much appreciated. I have a problems with the children of May Medley Burton and Minerva Brooks. Everything I have seen that shows their children states that there were two, not three. They are shown as Ambrose Chiles Burton and William Henry Burton. I have always assumed that Irene was their daughter. She is shown first on the 1860 census as being 10 years old, on the 1870 census as being 20 years old, and on the 1880 as being 24 years old. On the 1880 census she is listed as daughter. The problem - On the 1900 Salt Spring Twp., Huntsville City, Randolph Co., Missouri, SD 2, ED 138, Sheet 1A, Ancestry.com image 1 of 38, dwelling 4, family 5, I found what I believe to be May Medley Burton.

    3. Here Cecil, this might help. 1850 US Census, pg 259B, Prairie Twp, Randolph county, MO, 1 Nov 1850, Dwelling 843, family 843. Joseph Burton, 33 year old white male farmer, $100, KY Orpha Burton, 28 year old white female, MO May Burton, 11 year old white male, MO Benj Burton, 8 year old white male, MO Thos. Burton, 6 year old white male, MO Speed Burton, 4 year old white male, MO Irene Burton, 3/12 year old white female born MO. From "The Higbee News" dated 9 Oct 1908--MISS IRENE BURTON DEAD--The many Higbee friends and acquaintances of Miss Irene Burton were pained to learn of her death which occurred at the home of her uncle, Judge May M. Burton, at Huntsville Friday of last week. She had been a sufferer from cancer for several months and had only recently returned from St. Louis where she underwent an operation in the hope of relief. It only hastened her death, which came as a welcome relief from untold suffering. Miss Irene was a daughter of Joseph W. Burton of this place but had always lived with her uncle since her mother's death which occurred when she was but two years of age. She was about 58 years of age and was a lady of saintly character, being a devout and consistent member of the Christian church. Funeral services were held Sunday at the home of her father by Eld. E. Y, Keiter and the remains tenderly laid to rest in the Rennolds burying ground. The large crowd of sorrowing relatives and and friends present spoke more eloquently than words of the high esteem in which she was held. The News joins the community in sympathy to the bereaved ones. 3. The email Kathy just sent had a reference to a Mrs. Sallie Winn, a nurse in Lee hospital, Fayette. I'm wondering if this lady is related to Dr. James W. Winn or his son, Dr. George Warren Winn. I would love to find a descendant of this family. Thanks, Charles A. Leach [email protected]

No. 8, Page 8, Col. 1--IN MEMORIAM--In memory of Ruby Nell Pitney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pitney, who died two months ago. There is sorrow in the household For the pet that lies and sleeps; And the father moves in silence, While poor mother sits and weeps. Brothers, sisters speak in whispers, And their grief they cannot hide; Ah, each heart is sadly yearning For the little girl that died! Long they watched her lie and suffer As their hopes would rise and fall; Oft they prayed to God the Father That Death's angel might not call; But her little face grew paler--Weaker was she day by day--- Till God sent His angel reaper, And her soul was borne away. Sad we are to see a flower Close its petals, droop and fade. And we long for song and sunshine In this world that God hath made. Human flowers need not wither, But eternal live and bloom, If we'd make our lives like sunbeams, Chase away each others gloom. To her teacher comes a sadness As she views that vacant seat; And her school mates would be happy Just once more their chum to meet. May her absence oft remind them Of each schoolmate left behind-- Think of one another's welfare--Be to each one ever kind. Gather up her little playthings; And the dresses that she wore; Put away her childish schoolbooks--She will need them here no more. Kiss them fondly, press them gently, Keep them safely, guard them well, They are pictures of the darling; They belonged to Ruby Nell. There is solace for each sorrow As on earth below we dwell, If we've treasured all the moment, Spent them wisely, used them well. We shall find a place in Heaven If with God we do abide-- 'Tis up there He's called sweet Ruby, Ruby Nell, the girl that died. ----By a Friend. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright notice: All transcriptions in this email are copyrighted by me.
