    3. Hello List and especially "NOAH", I have been waiting to see if anybody would add one of the major Kentucky Counties for migration to Randolph. Noah, you did, and it is Wayne Co., Ky. The families that I have documented over the last ten years include the ones you mentioned as well as the RAMSEY, BAKER, SUMMERS, SUMPTER, MIKEL, BURRIS, DAVIS, ACREY, BURTON, GREEN, TUTTLE, VICKERY, AND WRIGHT families. I am sure there are more and in time I will find them. I am related to most of these families listed above and would love to communicate with any and all. Another interesting thing about these migrations from Wayne Co. they lasted for a long, long period of time. I have the first arrivals around 1810 and the last around 1900. 3. Hi David, I really don't remember that too well. It seems like in my history colloquium where we set and listened to the faculty describe their research interests one of the history faculty members indicated they were interested in the migration patterns to Missouri. I know it was none of the European or Asian historians so it was likely one of the American historians. Pretty sure it wasn't Cunningham since he was an eminent Jefferson scholar and Collins was 20th century. I can't remember who else I had for 18th and 19th Century America and it could have been that professor. I think the one I had for late 19th century America left MU for a more prestigious department just before or after I graduated in 1986. Although I think it is getting worse, I agree that the "PC" trend is not new as I witnessed it first-hand when I was a student at Mizzou (which was also about 20 years ago). Speaking of which, can you give the names of the Mizzou Rural Sociology professor and History professor who were studying migration patterns (you mentioned this in an earlier posting). I took a class in Rural Sociology with Dr. Hartman and wondered if he was one of the professors involved with that project. Thanks! David Jane Debellis <[email protected]> wrote: I won't address which side is right and which side is wrong here, other than to say having grown up in a county next to one named for Daniel Boone, I've not heard a lot disparaging comments about him but I'm sure he had his detractors as well as his supporters in his time. It is quite likely there is a bit of truth in both accounts. I will add that as someone who majored in history the "politically correct" concept of history is nothing new. It really is revisionist in some ways and typically it all comes together and out in the wash so to speak eventually. Also, sometimes the best book on a person or event was written years ago and so to get published (and to get tenure you have to get published) you have to provide new interpretations that may disagree with or contradict the original ones. I have seen this with biographies of both Presidents Roosevelts, Eisenhower and several of our founding fathers. Our own beloved Harry S. Truman is a victim of this...Fortunately there are still historians like David McCollough dedicated to doing the research and debunking myths with the truth. There have been books of late that are very critical of Daniel Boone. Unfortunately, this is a trend we see too often relative to the treatment of our American icons! I think too many of our current-day "politically correct" historians are more intent on tearing down the founders and trailblazers of our country than anything else (usually, they will resort to personal smears that really have no historical significance to the individual in question). I'm sure Daniel Boone had his faults (don't we all), but I also know that he (and his family) played a pivotal role in the early history and settlement of Kentucky. It is interesting to note that some 20 years after Daniel Boone's death in Missouri, the State of Kentucky was adamant that his body be exhumed and moved to Frankfort! To give Kentucky credit, they did build a beautiful tombstone/memorial honoring a great American. Finally, I don't know about people in southwestern Virginia, but it is news to me that people in Kentucky do not think much of Daniel Boone (I believe just recently, they named another highway in KY in honor of Daniel Boone)! 2. Hello Valerie: We, my mother and 3 brothers, boarded a train in Hoxie,Lawrence,Ar., in 1939. My father had driven out several months prior to our feparture as my mother was pregnant with the youngest child and couldn't travel. We rode the train to Orange,Orange,Ca., and got off at the old depot there. I retired from Orange County Marshal Dept., in 1993 and returned to Pocahontas,Randolph, Ar. Probably the best way to Yorba Cemetery would be; go north on the 57 to Orangethorpe, go east on Orangethorpe for several miles [ thru Atwood ] The Yorba cemetery is about 1/4 mile east of Yorba Linda Blvd.it is on the left side of road but, you can' t see it from Orangethorpe. I have Ethleen Blansett but I didn't have her father, I have her husband Joseph D. Lay and the marriage date but no other info. If you can fill in the missing info I would surely like to have it. A family cemetery on an ancestral farm in Kentucky, definitely a rural setting even today, more than 150 years after most of the burials, is being overrun by the current farmer's haystacks and cattle. 3. As usual I couldn't find what I thought I had re the Green's, Stevenson's, etc., but in my l905 history of an Episcopal parish in Culpepper Co, VA I did find again a sketch titled 'The Bryan-Lillard Family.' My maternal grandmother's maiden name was Lillard, and descended from this family. The women in the family joined the DAR via Capt John Lillard. This piece states that Jos. Bryan settled in Culpepper in l752 having come from King George County, and 'is supposed to have been' the father of Wm. Bryan, who was the gr.grandfather of Wm. Jennings Bryan who, in l904 when this book was being written, was for the 2nd of 3 times a candidate for the Presidency. This Wm. lived near Sperryville (now...in l904...Rappahannock) and had among other c. John, who m. Nancy Lillard. It states she was a daughter of John Lillard of the Revolution, who lived in the Bryan vicinity. John Bryan, WJB's grandfather, left VA in l925; Silas Lillard Bryan, WJB's father, was then 4 yrs old. John settled on the banks of the Ohio...he and Nancy died in l830 and l835, respectively. The family moved to MO/IL and in l840 Silas....WJB's father....went to live with an older brother in MO....he went to IL where he was educated, engaged in politics, etc., leaving WJB and other children. I'll have to check my Lillard book as to who this John was, but I suspect that it is another than mine. As for the Stevenson's, I believe it was Letitia Green Stevenson who was the wife of the first Adlai Ewing Stevenson, one-time VP of the US; and they were the grandparents of the Adlai who ran against Ike twice and lost. I've printed out your info on the Boone's, etc., and will keep it in mind as I look further into these families. I was taken again at how many surnames I noticed that are among those of early Randolph Co, MO settlers.
