Janet - My great grandmother's sister, Minnie Lay, married Oscar Winn. All this talk of the Winn's and this is the first I have heard of an Oscar. Unfortunately, I don't think this is my Oscar, as he was born around 1874. I looked up the census' of 1880 and around. There is a Winn family in Salisbury, and that Oscar was 13 in 1880. There seems to be a Georgia Winn in another family, age 20, in the 1880 census. And, a Gertie, age 15, in yet another family. So maybe they are all cousins. Wish it were my Oscar, though! Valerie -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, April 03, 2006 4:27 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [MoRandolph] Winns I have noticed several mentions of Winn families, so I thought I'd post this inquiry here. I have 3 photos of Winns...Gertie, Georgia, and Oscar. All appear to be in late teens/early twenties. The photos were taken in Salisbury MO, but I don't know who these folks are or where they actually lived. I think they may have been friends of one of my family lines, but really don't know. I'm guessing the photos were taken around 1870 - 1880 I've posted a similiar inquiry to Chariton, Howard Co, and Winn lists but haven't found anyone who knows who they might be. Hi, I had an uncle named Norvel Brown who passed away in 1995 and I do have an uncle named Bragg Brown who lives now in Marshall. However, I'm not familiar with Norvelle Brown of Marshall...he may be related to the Browns from Slater, MO who (to our best knowledge) are not related. Thanks! Norman - funny you should find Olivewood. It is a very large cemetery and very nicely maintained. It is where most of my Riverside relatives are buried. You have made me curious about the neglected cemetery that I mentioned and I will have to look into it. Dear Norman - sorry for the delay in writing. Weekends are taken up with kid activities, etc... Loved hearing your story. My relatives lived in Orange about the same time you did. Actually just a few streets past the train depot on Pixley; they lived there for many years. The father of the house, Harold Bradley, worked for the local newspaper. We had other family in Orange, too.........Barbara and John Young, with their two daughters. It is funny that this is where I ended up! We have a dear friend who started as a Marshal in Orange County and was most likely there when you were. I see that you started and returned to Arkansas ("Ar."). What is your tie to Missouri? As for Ethleen.....she was married to my great grandmother's younger brother and I have several letters from Joe and Ethleen, as well as a few pictures. They never had any kids (or any that survived), but from what I have heard, they were wonderful people. If you are interested I can forward a picture, directly to your email, as the list doesn't accept attachments. I have that Ethleen Blansett with birthdate Jan 1, 1882 and death June 24, 1968. She married Joe Lay on May 17, 1908. Joe was born Jan 10, 1882 and died Feb 13, 1952. Ethleen's parents were Moses Blansett and Susan Hardin Dennis. I don't have any substantiated info on Moses and Susan, but someone on ancestry.com has Moses' birthdate as Jun 28, 1856 and death Aug 17, 1931. They have Susan's birthdate as Nov 28, 1861 and death Dec 3, 1917. I will have to look on my own to verify this. I did find Moses on the 1860 census as a 4 year old living in Chariton, Schuyler, Missouri. They household members were as follows: William Blansett 41 years Farmer Elvira 35 James 17 Nancy 15 John 13 Martha 11 Emily 9 George 7 Moses 4 Mary 1 On the 1870 census, father William is listed as a Preacher and Emily, age 9, is now listed as "Missouri", age 19. The last name for the household is spelled "Blancet". On the 1880 census, father William is again listed as a Farmer. Living in the house are wife Elvira, Moses (age 24), and Mary (age 21). Last name spelled Blanset. On the 1920 census, William is living by himself as a widower. He is 63 years old. On the 1900 census, Moses is the head of his household with wife Susan H. They have two daughters, Ethleen age 12, and Carrie age 9. Its been a very busy week for the MORANDOL website. I have alot to go through! I guess the names were close but that doesn't count in genealogy and that's why I was at a dead-end. Thanks to all who got me going. If I can help anyone with Lucios T. Burton, son of Elijah, son of Ambrose Burton..let me know. Donna Burton Donna - I have some stuff on Lucius. Below are my notes. I have his middle name as "Tanner". It seems he was probably married twice although I'm not certain of that. Probable wives are Angeline Kimbrough and Elizabeth Miller Jeter. I have notes on the Kimbrough family but do not know how Angeline fits in. I haven't found a marriage date noted for Lucius and Elizabeth Jeter. I show 11 children total for Lucius - Presley T., Francis A., Isschnar J. (sp?), Mary B., John Clement, James P., Lucius Taylor, Eleanor, Joseph W., Elijah M., and Ann B. (might have been known as Dollie). Lucius appears in the 1850 census for Randolph Co., MO in Prairie Twp, page 261 B. He is living in his father's household and is presumably widowed? His age is listed as 30 and his occupation as Carpenter. His place of birth is listed as Kentucky. His sons Presley and Isacher are also present. Also appears on page 204 B in the John Wiley household. Lucius should have another child - a daughter Francis but she does not appear in the household. She may be living with Lucius' brother Edmund. A Edmund Burton is living in Macon Co. in 1850 and he is the right age - in his household are Elizabeth (37), Mary S. Collins (10), Francis Burton (7) and Juliet Collins (7). Lucius appears in the 1860 census for Randolph Co., MO on page 860. His age is listed as 40, his occupation as farmer, and his place of birth as Kentucky. Also listed in the household are Eliabeth, Presley, Francis, Issacher, Mary B., John C., James P., Lucius T., and Eleanor. Lucius appears in the 1870 census for Randolph Co., MO in Union Twp, Cairo, page 344 A. His age is listed as 51, his occupation as farmer, and his place of birth as Kentucky. Also listed in the househould are E.M., Mary B., John C., James P., Lucius T., Ellenora, Jos. W., and Ann B. Lucius appears in the 1880 census for Randolph Co., MO in Unino Twp, page 109-09 (114 A). Sandy, the Moberly Library has the newspapers on film and could look up the obit for you. Their phone number is:660-263-4426. Ask for the Reference desk. The cemetery started out at Sunset Memorial Garden and then later changed to Memorial Park. It is located next to the drive -in theater at the north end of Morley St. (bus. Hwy 63) They are doing a lot of road construction out there and you can only get to it from the south. If you would like me to go to the library and send you a copy of the obit, I will be glad to do that for you. Hi Sandy, Not sure which name came first but they are one in the same. Attached to this cemetery is the small plot of land for Veterans' burials as well. My grandfather and his second wife and my parents are buried there. They bought their lots back in the 1950's or 1960's with the caveat that my mother did not want hers next to her stepmother's. It is not as pretty a cemetery as Oakland & St. Mary's as all the stones are required to be flush with the ground and you are somewhat limited in what you put out flower wise. The cemetery is off the north end of Business 63 (Morley Street) near the drive-in theater and past Westlake's and the Scholastic Book Center. There was a Rake Winn who lived in Higbee whose wife was named Georgia??
I haven't seen it mentioned, but there is a James Burton family cemetery a l/2 mile west of Higbee not to be confused with the Burton Cem (formerly Rennolds Cem) that distance to the south. I know there is a list of the former's burials at the RCHS.
If Murrell was in Higbee, I don't know, as that was before my knowledge of family and much before I knew there had been a divorce. But since his in-laws were from Randolph Co., it's a very good possibility. If you'll tell me who you are looking for in the Tucker Cem., I'll check my files at the historical society this Saturday. I've walked the cemetery several times and feel sure that I have a copy of its 'inhabitants' in my file at the RCHS. It originated as the Thos. Tucker family cemetery as I recall.
