I am looking for further information on brothers, Armando and Ernesto Morales y Hodge and their family lineage. Their parents were Manuel Morales y Clara & Elisa Juana Hodge. Elisa was supposedly born in San Martin. Manuel may have been born in Spain. Born c1850 these brothers' families look like this: Armando Morales y Hodge bc: 1850 m: possibly Petra Cano in San Juan, Puerto Rico Possible children: Armando, Pedra, Miguel & Nana (Any info on the above group either confirming or denying the info presented would be greatly appreciated!) Ernesto Morales y Hodge ( First wife & Family) bc: 1850 m: c1881 to Anicasia Suarez y Correa Children: Victorina, Guillermo, Manuel G. , Ernesto Cecilio, Dolores Armando, and Evarista Francisca Ernesto Morales y Hodge (Second wife & Family) m: Maria Petronilla Rivera (Firado?) 21 December 1896 on the Isle of Culebra. She was born about 1883. Children: Petra Maria Elisa, Bernebe Ernesto, Foltunio Carlos, Primo Dimas, and Manuel Juan. Ernesto died 22 April 1916. According to family lore, Ernesto's brother, Armando, took care of at least Ernesto's youngest two children, Dolores Armando and Evarista Francisca, at least for a time after Ernesto's first wife, Anicasis died. If nothing else, can someone tell me if the "Juana" in Elisa Juana Hodge's name sounds like a "middle" name or a "surname"? Thanks! And good luck in your own searches! Cherre

The original landholders in the La Alameda land grant were Zarate y Bayarena and they sold a large part of that land grant to the Cantu family. The Morales probably married into either the Cantu or Zarate y Bayarena familes, or both. In my database I have the name of only one person you mentioned. That would be Petra Cantu but I don't know if she is the same person who married Manuel Morales. The Petra I have was the daughter of Secundino Cantu and Refugia Contreras, who lived in Los Villarreales ranch in Mexico, but she is related to the Cantus who bought the land in Encino. Many of the original settlers in southern Brooks County came from Los Villarreales, La Grulla and Camargo. Petra had 7 siblings named Wenceslado, Saturnino, Berto, Juana, Julia, Mateo, and Hilaria. Her Morales ancestors include Manuel Morales, who married Petra Cantu. He played the violin. Petra's family had some land that the Cantu's sold to the Lasaters of Falfurrias. Ignacio Cantu Morales was a son of Manuel and Petra. Ignacio was born in 1884 in Encino del Poso and died in 1958 in Falfurrias. Ignacio had two wives. He first married Severina Flores, daughter of Rafael Flores. Severina was born in Los Hebanos La Joya and died in Falfurrias (La Parrita) in 1925. Ignacio then married a lady by the name of Genoveva. The children of Ignacio Cantu Morales and Severina Flores were Manuel Flores Morales, Ignacio Flores Morales, Santiago "Chago" Morales, Maria Flores Morales (she married Ramon Guerra, a plumber in Falfurrias), and Celia Flores Morales (She married Max Longoria and is the mother of a former Brooks County sheriff). The other maternal great-grandfather was Jesus Maldonado who married Francisca Vargas, having at least one child, Paula Maldonado, my maternal grandmother. Paula Maldonado married Victoriano (Victor) Morales possibly in 1917. Any help on the Morales - Torres and Maldonado - Vargas connections would be appeciated.

Wanted to post a message regarding a recent discovery I found in Mayaquez, PR. The names are Antonio Morales who married my Great Grand Aunt, who's name was Maria Correa de Matos. Antonio and Maria are originally from Cabo Rojo. Antonio and Maria had one child that I know of and his name was Jose Monserrate Morales, who was born April 8, 1902 in Mayaquez and lived in the barrio of Canderlaria.
