7 Jan 1891, Locals Geo. W. POPE died at his home in this city, Saturday after a lingering illness of consumption. Decease was a young man of good moral habits, and was always ready to do his part in advancing the interests of his associates in a social way and hand many zealous friends in this city. He confessed faith in Christ during the series of meetings held at the Presbyterian church a few weeks ago, and received the ordinance of baptism at his residence, being at that time to weak to attend the services. He leaves a wife and little son, his mother, brother, and sisters to mourn and cherish his memory. The services were conducted by Rev. E.E. STRINGFIELD Sunday morning after which the remains were taken to the city cemetery for burial.
