Local, 17 Sep 1885 Last Sunday a sad accident occurred at the residence of J. M. WARNICK, which will doubt less result in the death of Layton HATFIELD, aged about 12 years. The boy was playing with Mr. Warnicks son Bayley, aged about 13 years, who had by some means got hold of a revolver. The boys did not think it loaded and Bayley pointed it at young Hatfield and pulled the trigger. It did not go off and he cocked it again and aiming it at Hatfield's head pulled again, when the weapon went off and the boy fell to the ground. The ball entered his head near the right temple and pentrated the brain. Dr. MOSS of Hartford was sent for, and a messenger sent to Kirksville for additional medical aid. The physcians succeeded in finding the ball and from the latest reports we learn that the boy is still alive but little hope is entertained that he will recover. The boys are cousins, and we are informed that young Warnick is nearly wild with grief over the terrible accident.
