    3. Subject: Ref John ROOKS Found Grave Marker Hello Cousins, I have been not on comp very much in the last 5 days as trying to get to getting a leaking roof redone and yesterday my freezer had quit I discovered last night so now have the loss of all my meat etc . Thus a short delay in sending this out to maybe get more imfo on these John Rooks in the Joseph and Elizabeth Jackson Rooks line Of Oh. Ind. Mo. S Dak.. Below is the return, finialy, of a message from the Person. who found the Grave Marker in Mo. I don't know what John he is talking about now unless it was John b 1808's son. John. b 1843. There also is one other John b 1839 but I think he is to be ruled out. I still am working on checking the property site and need any thing anyone has on either of these two John's. or others. John b 1808 would have been abt 54/5 yrs of age and that was not uncommon age for Civil War men. I feel it may be John Rooks b 1808, a son to Joseph??? Still could be another. I think the Property papers may give an idea which John. Also IF it wasn't John 's ( b1808's ), 'Patented Property of 1856 with abt 5 other graves with stones( no names on) then who are these other people and why was this John Rooks bur, there ??? I hope he sends me a copy of the war record he has of the John he is claiming the grave to be.. COULD The property he has may have been a part of the original Patent of John's???? Many unanswered questions yet to get imfo relative to. Read his message and send me your thinking on this. Do any of you have any John ROOKS in your line that this could have been who was in Civil War and or imfo of being in the civil war?????? Please help us solve this problem of Who this John Rooks is and who he belongs to as well as why he was burried there. Also who can the other stones found same place belong to. Time period is maybe 1856?? to abt 1870?? Do any of you have a missing John Rooks, also there is an M. as for an inital but may have been a mistake by and as engraver may have mistook the M for Missouri Co. as an initial in name.. John Rooks b 1808 was in M Company , 7th Missouri Cavalry, and died 15 Mar 1862 in a civil war camp of lung fever at Brooksville,( Brooksdale?) Linn Co Mo, per Officer's statement but ,Temperance, his widow put 1861 on her application for pension in 1864. Also this John's Land Patent 1856. was for the same Co. in Mo Marker was recently found. in. We have been in the process of moving back from England and was waiting on our computer. I know from the grave marker that John M. Rooks served in the 7th Missouri Calv. during the Civil War, so a birth date of 1808 is too early. From what I can find I think he was born in 1840 or 42. The Civil War records show that he was mustered out of the service, so did not die in action, but may have been injuried and died shortly after. I have the land records for the farm and the Rooks never owned the land! This is why I don't understand why he has been buried there. I don't have any pictures, but will get some when possible and forward to you. Also, I don't think this John M. Rooks had any children or was ever married, so wouldn't be your great great grandfather. This is what I know and as I have time will do more reseaSorry it has taken so long to get back with you. 3. Linda, it would be interesting to find where she was actually burried. Maybe all the plots were taken close to his grave and so maybe they bur her in another place where some of her family was. Or maybe they didn't mark the grave due to the act od suicide. Maxine Wilton mmwaw@sprynet.com -----Original Message----- From: Linda M. Nixon <lindanixon@worldnet.att.net> To: MOPUTNAM-L@rootsweb.com <MOPUTNAM-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Saturday, July 15, 2000 7:01 AM Subject: Obituary This is an very descriptive obituary of a young girl which was found in a Unionville newspaper in the Oct 27, 1890 issue. Interesting to read even if not connected. Linda 27 Oct 1890, Suicide---Miss Anna, daughter of Jesse WILDES, of Lincoln township, committed suicide on Saturday last, by taking arsenic, her despondency having been occasioned by the tragic death of Charley BOSTON, to whom she was engaged to be married. She had repeatedly told her parents that life was not worth the living and that she would soon follow Charley to the grave. Her threats were not seriously considered, and it was thought she would finally become reconciled and not attempt to carry the threats into execution. On Saturday she came to this city with Mrs. Cyrus BOSTON, mother of her affianced, and together they visited young Boston's grave. The request was then and there made that when she died she be placed beside his body. Mrs. Boston, unaware of Miss Wildes intentions, assured her that her wishes should be complied with. Miss W. then visited Monroe's drug store alone and asked for Rough on Rats. Mr. M. informed her he did not have it. She then asked what would be a good substitute and was told arsenic would answer the purpose. She then asked Mr. M. in the manner of which to prepare it, representing that she wanted the poison for rats. She was informed to mix some meal and water sprinkling a little of the arsenic over it. She purchased three ounces and went out, returning to Joseph BRAMHALL's where she was staying and took half the amount purchased at about 5:00 p.m. and died about midnight. She was buried in this city Monday, and her requests complied with as nearly could be. ***note by me...was all of you curious if she was buried by her financee?? The last sentence..made me wonder. So I looked them up in the cemetery records and if she was buried next to him..she does not have a marked grave or any record of burial there. He is buried next to his parents, Cyrus and Frances Boston.
