K. Williams, brother of county clerk, A.J. Williams. Local 29 Jan 1890 Mr. and Mrs. Harry NEWELL of this city lost their youngest child last week. It was a sufferer of pneumonia. Burns, 29 Jan 1890 Died--little daughter of John ROE, of Sullivan County of pneumonia fever. She was buried in the Thompson graveyard. Local, 29 Jan 1890 Norman SKINNER'S baby died Sunday, and was buried Monday. It was about one week old. Mrs. B.P. Hackney, of Jackson township, died at the home of her daughter in Kahoka Monday, aged 63 years. She will be brought to Lemen Station today for interment.
These are deaths reported in the July 10, 1889 issue of a Unionville newspaper. 10 Jul 1889 In giving the date of Mrs. Burrell PADGETS death in our last issue we made a mistake stating that it occurred the 26th of March when we should have said the 26th of June, 1889. 10 Jul 1889, Obit Died--Sunday, July 7th, at his home in Lincoln township, Jonathon D. SUMMERS. His remains were interred in the family cemetery on his farm, by the Masonic Fraterity of which he was a member, A.J. WILLIAMS conducting the cermeonies. The deceased was born in Randolph Co. Mo., September 20th, 1832 and moved with his father to this county in 1840 and has lived here continuously ever since. He was a consistent member of the Adventist Church, a highly respected citizen, and postmaster of Unionville, from the year 1859 to the fall of 1864. He leaves many friends and relatives in this county to mourn his loss.

She was a native of Penn., but in early life emigrated to Ohio with her parents where she remained til her marriage to the bereft husband, Robert Payne in 1855. She was buried at Union church 3 Jul 1889, Obit Died---Wednesday, March 26th, at her home in Sherman township, Mrs. Burrell PADGET. Her remains were interred the following day at the Union Church cemetery. Mrs. Padget lived to a ripe old age, and spent many years in this county.

CARROLL died at age of six years, two months and sixteen days of scarlet fever. Vera was an unusually bright interesting child.

The date of issue obit was found in is listed on top line, followed by obituary. 20 May 1889, OBIT We are sorry to announce the death of Mrs. Jacob STEWART which occurred on the 15th, from measles with complications. Mrs. S. was the daughter of Jesse and Hannah WYALDS. Born in Ohio, May 1st, 1848. She moved to the state in 1863 and was married to Jacob Stewart in Nov 1865. She leaves a husband and 8 children with unnumbered friends to mourn her loss. Her presence was always cheerfull; the day was never so cloudy but what she had a smile and some word of encouragement for everyone. She was an affectionate wife and loving mother. Her last hours seemed attended with comfort, thought death was unexpected, she bore her pain with christian foritude , and her happy expression was indicative of Peace with God. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. B. POWERS, after which her last remains were interred in Central City Cemetery.

Worthington was born Dec. 20th, 1888, died March 12th, 1889. The parents were very desirious that their daughter might live until development into womanhood, but in this they have been disappointed. Little Idress has gone to the home of the blest. A funeral sermond was preached on the occasion by the writer from Second Timothy, second chapter and eighth verse. By Eld. John R. Mrs. Thompson was a amiable and estimable lady, respected and admired by all, and her death casts a gloom over the entire community. 3 Apr 1889 Mrs. George SCOTT, of near St. John died of rheumatism on Wednesday last. 24 Apr 1889 A child of William CALLISON, of York township, aged five years, died on Monday of last week with Scarlet Fever.
This obituary was in the book of clippings at the Unionville Library from a Unionville newspaper in the 1 Oct 1887 Issue. 1 Oct 1887, Obituary Prosecuting-Attorney, Fred HYDE, died at his home in this city on Sunday last, after an illness of over three weeks duration. Consumption, the dreaded disease having marked him as its prey. Frederick Hyde was born at Southington, Conn., July 25, 1832 and died in Unionville, Mo., Sept., 25, 1887. He devoted some years to collegiate study at Oberlin, Ohio. He was admitted to the bar at St. Paul, Minnesota in April 1862 and served to the end of the war. In May, 1866 he came to this city where he engaged in the pratice of his profession, the law. He had borne a prominent part in the affairs of Putnam county, and northern Missouri. In 1868 hewas elected by the Republicans to the office of Circuit Attorney, the district comprising of counties of mercer, Grundy, Sullivan, Chariton and Putnam. So well did he fill the position that he was again elected to fill it. During Mr. Hyde's second term, the office was abolished and the office of Prosecuting Attorney was created. In 1872 he was elected by the voters of Putnam county to fill the position. ****there is a note on the clipping saying continued.... but this is all I have.
22 Sep 1887, Obituary Mrs. Sarah BOLANDER died at her home in Grant township on Saturday, September 2, 1887 of consumption. Deceased was born in Ripley county, Indiana, March 3, 1826. Emmigrated to Hancock county, Illinois in 1835 emigranting from the latter point to the territory of Iowa in 1838. Married to Wm. H. Bolander in Van Buren County, Iowa November 18, 1841. She embraced religion in 1844, living a consistent christian through life. In 1858 she emigranted to Putnam county and have since resided here. At the burial the services were conducted by Rev. MC FARLAND. John Mathus, of Lynn, Kansas, Isaac Mathus, Schuyler Co., Mo., Enoch MATHUS, Republic county, Kansas and Mrs. Nancy SUTHERD, of LaPlata, MO., brothers and sisters of deceased attended the burial. On her death-bed the deceased bid all her children, friends farewell and requested them to meet her in heaven.

Linda Listowner for Putnam County Mailing List lindanixon@worldnet.att.net These are deaths that were reported in the 8 Sep 1887 issue of a Unionville newspaper. 8 Sep 1887, DIED On the morning of September 1, 1887 the home of Mr. G.N. and Mrs. Hattie STILLE was made sad by the death of their infant daughter Edna Eve, aged 10 months and 15 days. Whooping cough was the immediate cause of death attacking the child already prostrated by previous illness. 8 Sep 1887 Died--at 4:14 a.m. Sept., 2, 1887 of blood poisoning, Mary B. KERBY. Deceased was the wife of W.B. Kerby, of Liberty township and was born in Iowa July 16, 1846. She had been ailing for the past two years, and in January had her left leg amputated below the thigh. She had fully recovered from the effects of the operation and was ready for an artificial limb, when about two weeks ago blood poisoning again set it and affecting the vital parts. Deceased was married to W.B. Kerby, April 3, 1862 and left surviving her besides her loving husband, a mother and three children. Elmas age 20 years, Florence age 18 years, and Joan aged 8 years. Mrs. Kerby had been a member of the Baptist church over 15 years. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Thomas HORTON and sympathizers accompanied the remains to the Rhodes cemetery.

21 Jul 1887 Mrs. Andrew RIDER, of Brighton, Col., and Mrs. C.R. CLARK of Elbert, Col., attended the funeral of their mother, Mrs. Dexter PUTNAM, at St. John on Saturday. 21 Jul 1887, Obituary St. John, Mo., Jul 18th, 1887. Ruby T. PUTNAM (deceased) wife of Dexter Putnam of York township was born in Sutton, Mass., Jan. 31, 1821. She was married to Dexter Putnam Mar 11, 1840. Mr. and Mrs. Putnam moved to Putnam co. Mo, in the spring of 1864. After a long and painful sickness she died Jul 15, 1887. The funeral services were held at the church in St. John, conducted by Rev. H.B. POWERS, and S.H. GUNN, after which the remains were borne to the Torrey cemetery. She has raised a family of twelve children, six boys and six girls, ten of whom have become members of the Baptist church and now living consistent Christian lives. All the children are still living. Ten of them were present at the funeral services. One not present is in Colorado, Two married daughters living in Colorado came to attend their mother in her last sickness. She leaves a devoted husband to mourn her irreparable loss.

COOK, of Indiana, arrived yesterday too late to attend the funeral of her mother. 14 Jul 1887 Died--By J.W. GODDARD. In memory of Mrs. L.D. MAHONEY who died July 3, 1887 of dropsy, after a long and severe illness. ******long poem. 14 Jul 1887 Mrs. COOK, wife of E.P. COOP, and mother of our townsman, D. L. Cook died at the old homestead in the northwest part of this township on Monday last after a lingering illness of several months duration. Although prostrated from the first, she gave no evidence of great bodily pain, and recognized all friends and neighbors who called. She was born on March 29, 1857, she came with her husband to this county, they locating on the farm on which they lived so long and happily together. The remains were interred in the Union Church cemetery, Tuesday.
