These are death items published in a Unionville, MO newspaper. THe Top line of the first death gives the locale as East End meaning Elm township. THe date of issue item was listed in follows, and below that will be the death information. End End, 10 Sep 1890 Grandmother HORNBACK who we are informed was in her eighty- fourth year, died very suddenly at the residence of Pinkney DYE in Liberty township last week on Wednesday, Sep 3rd. Aunt Mary as she was known by all had been a widow for many years. Her remains were laid to rest in the Bratcher grave yard 17 Dec 1890 We learn just prior to going to press that Mrs. HOSKINSON died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. G.W. DAVIS of this city. 24 Dec 1890, Terre Haute Little Daisy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. GEISENHOF, died the 12th of this month of membranous croup and diptheria. It was but two years old and was sick only a few days. The bereaved family and relatives have our heartfelt sympathy in this their bitter hour of bereavement. The body was interred in the Sprigg cemtery the following Saturday.
My great grandmother, Louisa Vashti Summers b. Sept.27, 1861 in Putnam Co. (Youngest child of Greenberry Summers) married Thomas Henry Moore in 1876. He was listed as a "tinkerer". They were divorced in 1922. Thomas Henry Moore died July 16, 1934 in Garnett, Anderson Co. KS. Louisa died May 13, 1942 in Unionville. I can find no relatives of my great grandfather, Thomas Henry Moore. I was told by a niece of Louisa that she remembered Louisa visiting with Moore relatives in the MO - IA area. Are there any Moore's that might connect to my great grandfather?? I found in his obit that he was born in Dover, Mason Co., KY in 1851. I found him as the oldest sibling of the Thomas and Margaret Moore family located there. Other younger siblings and approximate birth date were: Michael 1854, John 1856, Mary A."Mollie" 1858, Christopher 1860, Margaret 1862, Kate 1865 and Lizzie 1869. In the 1870 census Thomas was listed as an apprentice to a carriage maker. Did any Moore's from Putnam or area move to Anderson Co. KS? I would presume he went there to be near family. Of his three sons, two preceded him in death and are buried in Unionville, and the third one lived in Kansas City. His name was Zora Lee Moore and he is buried in Aurora, MO. Any help with these Moore's would be sincerely appreciated. There are millions of we Moore's, and I can't find mine.!!

I am researching the Sulser family, who settled in Putnam County, Missouri in the 1860s. In 1861 my great-grandfather, John Sulser and his brother, Abraham Sulser deserted the Confederate Army in what is now West Virginia. They came to Missouri on horseback with little more than the clothes on their backs, dodging both the Union and Confederate armies on the way. In Putnam County, John Sulser married Dorcas Ann Demory, the widow of Thomas Pearson (died of measles while serving the Confederacy in Tennessee). John and Dorcas' children are: Henry Sulser Isaac Sulser William James Sulser Francis M. Sulser David Albert Sulser Julia Virginia Sulser Sarah Sulser Margaret Birdella Sulser (my grandmother) Addie Sulser Rebecca Sulser Phoebe Sulser Harley Sulser John's brother, Abraham Sulser, married Frances Jane Mills. Their children are: Martha Sulser Ida Sulser Rachel L. Sulser Mary E. Sulser Hattie J. Sulser Rosa C. Sulser George D. Sulser My grandmother, Margaret Birdella Sulser, married William Thomas Wymore in Putnam County in 1899. Their children are: Bessie Lee Wymore Edna Marie Wymore Edyth Wymore Jessie Jaine Wymore George William Wymore Finis Raymond Wymore Maxine Virginia Wymore Reta Pearl Wymore (my mother) I have a great deal of information on the Wymore family that I would be happy to share. I'd be glad for anything I could get on these two families, especially on the Sulsers. Thanks, Paula Miller Midland, TX pcmiller@apex2000.net
I must have missed the earlier post about locating graves so this may be off track - I just wanted to clarify that my daughter-in-law is an anthropologist and when they use a rod to locate burials, the rod is hollow; when it is brought up there is a 'tube' of soil inside. A scientist trained in geology, such as she is, can tell from this whether the soil has ever been disturbed, i.e., if there has ever been a grave dug there. I don't think they send it down quite far enough to hit the remains of a coffin. Which would feel like nothing because 100-yr old wood would probably not be there anymore. LaWanda
This is an very descriptive obituary of a young girl which was found in a Unionville newspaper in the Oct 27, 1890 issue. Interesting to read even if not connected. Linda 27 Oct 1890, Suicide---Miss Anna, daughter of Jesse WILDES, of Lincoln township, committed suicide on Saturday last, by taking arsenic, her despondency having been occasioned by the tragic death of Charley BOSTON, to whom she was engaged to be married. She had repeatedly told her parents that life was not worth the living and that she would soon follow Charley to the grave. Her threats were not seriously considered, and it was thought she would finally become reconciled and not attempt to carry the threats into execution. On Saturday she came to this city with Mrs. Cyrus BOSTON, mother of her affianced, and together they visited young Boston's grave. The request was then and there made that when she died she be placed beside his body. Mrs. Boston, unaware of Miss Wildes intentions, assured her that her wishes should be complied with. Miss W. then visited Monroe's drug store alone and asked for Rough on Rats. Mr. M. informed her he did not have it. She then asked what would be a good substitute and was told arsenic would answer the purpose. She then asked Mr. M. in the manner of which to prepare it, representing that she wanted the poison for rats. She was informed to mix some meal and water sprinkling a little of the arsenic over it. She purchased three ounces and went out, returning to Joseph BRAMHALL's where she was staying and took half the amount purchased at about 5:00 p.m. and died about midnight. She was buried in this city Monday, and her requests complied with as nearly could be. ***note by me...was all of you curious if she was buried by her financee?? The last sentence..made me wonder. So I looked them up in the cemetery records and if she was buried next to him..she does not have a marked grave or any record of burial there. He is buried next to his parents, Cyrus and Frances Boston.

Hi All- Nice to see this board so active. With so many looking & watching, I thought this would be a good time to throw out a request for any info anyone might have on the old G.A.R. Post in Unionville. It was dedicated to my GG grandfather Thomas Wade. Any pictures or stories or anything would be great, as his early life is a mystery to me. Thanks Jeannine McDaniel
Linda and all, For anyone wanting to ask the library in Unionville to send copies of something from genealogy, it usually only takes a phone call or letter to them. Be specific, don't just say "anything for a specific surname". Send all info that might help them. But don't expect them to just search. When making the request, send a donation to the library also. I have always found them more than helpful. Rosalene, Have you searched the ancestry.com files for Civil War Pension files? I've been searching for what unit 2 of my ancestors were with and could never find them. Yesterday I found my hardest one with a pension file. You get the name, unit, application and certification numbers. You might give it a try. I'm surprised they don't have a grave-witcher. A rod into a 100 year old wooden box wouldn't feel like there were anything there... and I know there are folks that can witch a grave, just as some can witch water. They are amazing. Can tell male/female, where the head is, etc. There are also those that can witch a house... tell where the door was, windows, etc., on a house that is no longer there... or visible to us, anyway. :-) Joanne
Hi Rosalene; Yes there is a paper record for the cemetery but the name is Pleasant Home Cemetery. Its on paved road W between Martinstown and Worthington in Elm township, Putnam Co. I have been to it many times and have it copied. According to my records, there was a Jacob Myers buried there who died 10 Jun 1888 age 72years, 6 months, 1 day. He was the only Myers buried there. I also checked the Unionville Republican index and though he wasn't listed there, there were three entries for Myers in that time span. They are as follows: Myer, Ida died 6 Sep 1881 had daughters Hannah & Sophia this item in the September 22, 1881 issue. Myers, E.D. a local item saying "has infant at Unionville" I believe the issue was May 9, 1878 Myers, Henry this said he was drowned and the son of Jacob. it was listed under Local, but listed Graysville so that must be where he was buried. The date of issue for this listing was Jul 6, 1892. ** I checked Rose cemetery, the most likely burial ground but he was not shown. That doesn't mean he wasn't buried there. Rose has alot of ground where there are no markers. Hope this helps. Sandy, Could you please lookup the Burkhart (sometimes spelled Buckhart or Burkhardt) and Keiran (most of the time this name has been butchered as Keivan, Kearns, Kern, Keran, you name it). You offered to do look ups is very generous and very much appreciated. Thank you so much for you effort.
